I joined this forum after my ectopic in August 2015 and at that time I desperately wanted to hear that it would be ok and to hear stories of success so I wanted to share my story and hope it helps someone going through this terrible time.
In August 2015 I had an ectopic pregnancy after a miscarriage a few months earlier. I had surgery to remove the ectopic only as both tubes were damaged, a few weeks later I needed methotrexate because my hormone levels weren’t declining. In October 2015 my levels finally hit zero. I questioned doctors and unfortunately the support and knowledge just wasn’t there. I was told to wait three months before taking folic acid and that it wouldn’t happen quickly, if at all. I then had hormone tests which showed high FSH and low AMH. I was in complete despair. I sat in a fertility clinic on January 15th 2016 and that was the first day of my last period for some time because a few weeks later I had a positive pregnancy test! And this one made it down my damaged tube to my womb. I had early scans and at 8 weeks there was a heartbeat, the doctors couldn’t believe it! I was more anxious than most during my pregnancy after everything that had happened but now my 6 month old boy is snoozing on my chest.
I don’t know if it was the fertility massages, castor oil packs, acupuncture, herbs, praying or just blind luck but I am so grateful and truly blessed.
I know going through an ectopic is awful both physically and especially emotionally and who knows what will happen if we try again but please don’t give up, you will get through this, cling to the hopeful stories and be kind to yourself.xx
Congratulations on your rainbow baby! And thankyou for this post. I have had a misscarriage a few months ago and now an ectopic. Your story gives me hope, thankyou!
Thanks so much for posting this. I also had a miscarriage and then an ectopic with tube removal, so I’m pretty depressed about my chances of ever having a family. Your story gives me hope!
Thank you for sharing, I actually come on the forum for hope as I had a ectopic sept 2016 and are hoping to try again soon but feel very nervous. So it’s nice to hear happy endings
I find it hard to read some of the posts on the forum and mainly look for happy ending stories so thank you.
It’s almost a year since my ruptured ectopic, I had one tube removed. We’ve been trying to conceive for around 6 months now and trying to keep positive.
Congratulations Sinead! Thank you for sharing your good news! It’s heartening to hear everyone’s success stories.
I had a miscarriage in December 16 and then an ectopic in March 17 which required surgery to remove my tube after it ruptured. I went to a GP today to find out if it was possible to have a blood test to see if I have any hormonal imbalance. I was told there was no such test. I actually feel better knowing that it does exist after reading your story, I’ll have to enquire elsewhere!

Thank you so much for posting this… Hoping to come to the end of my ectopic nightmare this week, and want to hope for the future but it is so frightening to consider this happening again. I’m so glad it worked out for you!
The hormone tests I had done were FSH and AMH which indicated a low egg reserve but it can fluctuate monthly (FSH). I also had thyroid checked to make sure it was ok and also progesterone. Apparently it’s a good idea to check for coeliac disease also to make sure you’re ok with gluten.
I went to see a herbalist who specialised in western herbs and not chinese herbs and he gave me a tincture to take and also a tea-these were blends of a lot of everyday herbs we eat. The goal of the herbs was to try and calm everything down and rebalance hormones after pregnancy and methotrexate. He also really encouraged me to get as much vitamins from foods as possible instead of supplements but I kept taking folic acid (which meant I ate liver-disgusting and sardines in olive oil and lots of veg). xxx
