Tests and scans after BFP - advice/experiences?

I was wondering if I could get some experiences from people who have gone through early pregnancy after an ectopic. I had mine in October last year, which required surgery, and my cycles have been really irregular since.

I got my BFP yesterday showing 1-2 weeks post conception but because of my cycle it would mean ovulation would have happened around 34 days post last period (which isn’t too unusual for me right now).

I spoke to my local EPU and they want to scan this week, which if I am 4 weeks I’ve read it’s unlikely they will see anything.

So my question is has anyone gone through anything similar with a really long cycle and not seen anything when you’ve gone in for a scan? And what happened next? Do they get you to come in for repeated scans until they can confirm it’s okay (or otherwise?) Or would they do blood tests to start with?

I hate not knowing what ‘the process’ is for things and on top of this is just the stress of it maybe being ectopic again. I ruptured in the middle of the night at 6 weeks, 6 days so I’m really worried about it happening early again.

Dear Chantal,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.

Yes 4 weeks may prove to be a little early to see anything on the scans. The same happened to me. I had serial blood tests and was then sent home to return for a scan the following week (with a very positive outcome)

It is difficult to say exactly what will happen as it will all depend upon what they see, but they will follow you up.

I know how nerve wracking this time is. You have lots of friends here who understand and feel free to.lean on us for as long as you need.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x
