I am 4 weeks pregnant after an Ectopic last year October. I am scared and getting niggles I had my left tube removed and am getting niggles both side. I went for a scan yesterday and there was nothing not even a sac. They took bloods and I have to go in 48 hours for another blood test. Anyone else had the same experience?
Hello
I’ve just seen you posted on my post which I replied to also. Please try not to worry too much at the moment, it is very unlikely that you’d see anything on a scan at 4 weeks pregnant. The bloods 48 hours apart will tell you if your pregnancy hormone is increasing at the correct rate. Good luck, I hope everything goes well for you.
Thank you keeping everything crossed!
Dear nd2626,
Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,
After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.
Doctors usually carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo at this stage, so it is perfectly reasonable that it is just too early to see anything on the scan yet.
As in your case, if scans are inconclusive, doctors usually test hCG levels. With a healthy pregnancy, hCG levels typically double every 48-72 hours. If levels rise normally, they can suggest (but not give a certain answer) that the pregnancy is implanted in the uterus. HCG levels that rise by less than 66 per cent over 48 hours can mean the pregnancy may be ectopic. They should offer another scan to confirm at around 6 weeks if your hCG levels have doubled tomorrow.
I know how the days seem to drag towards the tests and waiting feels like forever! I felt that too with my subsequent pregnancy. You are not alone while the days pass and I will be thinking of you tomorrow when hopefully your doctors can provide you with the reassurance that you need.
From a personal note, I too had an early scan due to pain at around 5 weeks and nothing could be seen on the scan. A week later (a whole, long week later) and there was a viable pregnancy, so I hope this gives you some hope.
Sending much love and positive thoughts,
Karen x

I know exactly how you feel and I am in exactly the same position. Found out I was pregnant on 6th March after ectopic in August and miscarriage in January. My GP was taking my Hcg every 48hrs which is doubling. I know this is a good sign but it’s so hard to relax and not think the worst until you see a scan. I had an internal scan on Monday 11th March where they couldn’t see anything. I know how you feel. I am still in limbo and don’t know what to think. The hospital said it is probably too early so still monitoring bloods until they get over 1,000 and they will do a repeat scan. Praying for both of us. I know how hard it is to wait. Lots of sleepless nights here .
What is your Hgc level now? It’s so scary and I totally get the sleepless nights! I’m like that st the moment. I have only had 2 blood test waiting for another scan. How many weeks are you? Wishing you the best of luck x
