I sadly suffered an ectopic in May / June on my right tube. I was fortunate that I didn’t need surgery as my HCG levels reduced naturally and I was discharged without treatment.
I found out this weekend that I’m pregnant again. I’ve been on an emotional rollercoaster, ranging from absolutely ecstatic to terrified and crying my eyes out.
My question is, did any of you receive any medical help early on to check if you everything was ok? A 6 week scan seems to be normal but did anyone have blood tests or checks before 6 weeks?
Trying to think positively as this is already feeling different to my last pregnancy where I started bleeding the same day I got a positive test. However I’m scared to be excited and accept the pregnancy until I know things are ok.
I know this is going to be an anxious pregnancy as I also had a miscarriage at 12 weeks last year
Sending good luck wishes to everyone on this forum- this was my rock through my ectopic and helped me so much
After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I remember, I felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.
Speaking from UK medical practice and standards, usually doctors carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo around this six week mark.
We advise contacting your local EPU, reminding them of your ectopic pregnancy and booking an appointment. If you are unable to self refer, contact your GP who will be able to do this for you.
It is not common place to have investigations prior to this scan.
I know how worrying it is and I’d love to wish away the weeks for you until your scan. I remember trying to keep myself busy but my mind always seemed to wonder back to the pregnancy. Just take each day as it comes.
We are all here for you.
Sending much love and positive thoughts,
Karen x
