Pain in next pregnancy- normal?

I got a positive pregnancy test 3 days ag and think we are about 4+3.

Today I’m having really mild dull back ache and a little dull ache on the side my previous ectopic was (tube still there)… did anyone have this and go on to have a successful pregnancy? Ive had period pain the the same spot ever since the ectopic 9 months ago too, so hoping its just a sensetive area… though obviously expecting the worst! :frowning:

GP has sent off for a scan but dont have the date yet an obviously its too early to see on an US yet anyway!

Hi mic1990,

I’m afraid I can’t give you any reassurance. I’m just here to say I’m in the exact same situation as you. I think I’m 4+1 today. I had an ectopic 17 months ago and it has been a real journey to conceive again. We’ve finally done it but I keep getting odd pains. I also had my tube left in and have frequently had pain from my tube over the last 17 months. I’m also trying to stay positive and hope, like you said, it’s just a sensitive area. Hopefully someone will have a positive news story for us.

Here if you want to talk. X

Crossing my fingers for you too. Have you got a scan date?

No not yet. I have an open referral form for the early pregnancy unit which says I can go there again without having to get a GP referral because I had an ectopic last time, so was just planning to do that as soon as I hit 6 weeks. There’s no point going before that because they won’t be able to see anything on the US.

I’ve not really slept, the anxiety is really getting to me.

How about you, have you got a date or a referral yet? X

I’ve woken up with spotting in addition to the cramps so I’ve been given a scan for tomorrow… Not that they will see anything as it’s too early, but presubaly they will do a blood test too… Crossing my fingers it’s coincidence but not looking good… :pensive::pensive:

Sorry to hear that. I’m keeping everything crossed for you. Hopefully its just a little bit of normal pregnancy spotting.

I’m finding it really hard to find anything related to successful pregnancies when a tube was left in after an ectopic. Most people seem to have had theirs removed so its hard to know what’s normal in our situation. Really hoping someone has a successful story for us to give us hope.

What does your cramping feel like? Mine is all over the place but not strong. Still getting the odd pains in my right tube though. When did yours start? X

Dear Mc1990,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy and I am sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.

KJF too, after an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

It is good to hear that you have an appointment for tomorrow. I should imagine that they will look at blood tests and complete a scan. I’m keeping everything crossed and sending positive thoughts.

Sadly I do have to remind you that if you experience any worsening bleeding or pain to seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Thanks for the reply Karen, and your kind words. very helpful.

Do you know if there are any particular sections on the website which covers pregnancy following salpingostomy rather than salpingectomy? It seems more rare to come across any information for those whose tubes were cut open but left in place after an ectopic.

Hi ladies,

I had my right tube removed in March and am currently 4w2d pregnant.

I had bloods on Monday which were 199 at 4 weeks and an ultrasound yesterday at 4w1d as I have had some mild cramps as you both describe and lower back pain too.

Obviously nothing could be seen on the scan but the Consultant wanted to check regardless.

I have another blood teat tomorrow to see how the hcg has changed. If they are happy with the rise, we will scan in 7-10 days time making me between 5w3d - 5w6d.

I am an absolute wreck with anxiety, I feel sick from the worry so I really feel for you both.

Sending you lots of luck for the next couple weeks ahead in this worrying time xx

Thanks Tangledaurora.

Sending you lots of luck too xx

Mc1990 and Tangledaurora, wishing you the best for your scans and bloods today.

I’m here to talk if you need it xx

Thank you, KJF. How is your cramping today?x

Thinking of you at your scan today Mc1990.

Hi ladies

I hope your all doing well, good luck for your scans, please let us know how they go. Xxx

I’ve been reading this post and it brings a tear to my eye, I had my right tube removed in March, I’ve never felt so much heartache being told my baby has a heartbeat but its an ectopic and we have to remove the tube.

My husband and I have been ttc again, and this past week I’ve been getting back pains and sharp cramping on my left side (my remaining tube), similar pain to my last ectopic.

I think I’m only 3 weeks along (if I am pregnant) according to my last period and its too early to test my hcg levels.

Im absolutely petrified to do a test because I don’t want it to be a negative and of its a positive i don’t want another ectopic.

Any positive thoughts from you ladies? I Just need to get these negative thoughts out of my head.

Thank you

J

Hi J,

I honestly know exactly how you feel, that was me a week ago, scared to test and it be negative but also scared for it to be positive for the fear of another ectopic.

I wish I had words to make you feel better but what I will say is that my Consultant agreed with me that we become more ‘aware’ of our bodies after an ectopic, so the pains could be completely normal but you are more aware of them now. This is what I keep telling myself anyway.

I called the EPU as soon as I got my positive test as I wanted to get the ball rolling, knowledge is power and all that.

I know how hard it is not to worry and stress but take each day as it comes and when you feel ready to test, take the leap and we will have our fingers crossed for you xxx

Hi Jagdeep Sagoo, I totally agree with Tangledaurora. Do what you need as soon as you get that positive test result to make yourself feel better. Only you know what is best for you.

For me personally I know I stress about every little thing, so if i was to go and get bloods now, I will just over-think every HCG reading, all while knowing it’s unlikely they’ll confirm anything until a 6 week scan. However, can totally see how for others that constantly getting blood updates is reassuring for them. I suggest you do which ever you think will cause you the least amount of stress!

Keeping my fingers crossed for your positive test and healthy 9 month journey.

Tangledaurora, thanks for your message. I had cramps this morning while getting ready (felt like period cramps) but then I’ve not really had anything this afternoon (hoping I don’t jinx it)! However, I’m working from home at the moment and have been sat at a computer all day so I’m not very active! Still getting twinges in my tube but also felt some twinges on my left so telling myself it’s probably just scaring. Thankfully no spotting so far (again, hoping not to jinx it)! The only other thing worrying me is that I dont seem to have any pregnancy symptoms (I’m a bit concerned this means my Hcg is low). But then I’ve seen online that many people don’t have any symptoms during 4th week. How are your cramps today? Do you feel any pregnancy symptoms?

Xx

Thank you both for your support and kind words, just gives me that little bit of hope.

I will keep you guys posted once I’ve taken the test.

Thanks

J xx

Hi KJF,

I totally agree with what you have said, waiting for the next set of results to come back has me so anxious. The Consultant didn’t give me a choice about not having the bloods but I can totally understand how some would choose to not know. Ultimately, I still have at least a week of waiting to do either way!

I’m lucky enough to have a 13 month old and my early pregnancy with her I had lots of cramps, I was certain I wasn’t pregnant as they felt like period cramps. I had a healthy pregnancy with her, so I hope that is a beacon of hope for us both right now.

I have read that the scar tissue can cause pain in subsequent pregnancies after surgery (tube removal or not).

I have felt cramps in the side where my tube was removed so I am trying to remind myself, there is nothing I can do but wait and try to chill out! Xx

Hi Jagdeep,

Definitely keep us posted and will be keeping my fingers crossed. Deep breaths, calm thoughts - you’ve got this xx

Hi Ladies,

I am wishing you all well on your scans and hope that these are viable pregnancies. I am in the same boat as you all. I had an EP and had my right tube removed exactly three months ago. I found out I am pregnant again and am so scared it will be EP again. Like you all, I have been feeling slight tinges on the side where my remaining tube is and my mind is racing.

I have had bloods taken and the HCG is rising appropriately, but that was the case with my last pregnancy as well (HCG doubled every 2 hours but still ectopic). So it doesn’t give me the confidence like it should. I have a US scan scheduled on the 21st.

The waiting is the worst! Praying for you all

Thanks all, glad it isn’t just me!

We had our scan yesterday, but as expected it was too early to see anything-there was a tiny shadow on the right ovary, but they said it might have bene bowels and it was too hard to tell for sure… But also that the endometrium looked thick which is apparently reassuring…

Hcg came back at 246 and they wouldn’t expect to see anything on a scan til about 1000+ which was vaguely reassuring.

Another blood tets tomorrow which will hopefully reveal more and then a scan date next week most probably…

My cramping has lessened since the day at 4+3, but it was mostly back ache with a but on the right side–not dissimilar to the pain from my prev ectopic, but also similar yo regular period pain.

Re the sided pain at 3 weeks… I have perosnaly been having the epains ever since my ectopic 10 months ago- pretty much every ovulation and every period since… So it may be part of normal period pain… Crossing my fingers you get a positive too and that we all have viable pregnancies in there!!

Hi all,

I have just found out I am pregnant again after having an ectopic pregnancy treated by methotrexate in December 2019.

It’s hard to feel excited when you’re wondering if it’s in the right place, I have just booked in my scan though on the 29th July when I’ll be 6.5 weeks so the count down is on until then. I want it to be okay this time so much, have my fingers firmly crossed for everyone! X
