Hi, so had an ectopic pregnancy nearly 5 weeks ago. It caused my right tube being removed. After the surgery ive been told that the hormones is going back to normal basically straight after the pregnancy has been removed. My hcg upon the surgery was already extremely low for the gestational time ( would of been nearly 9 weeks when the tube ruptured and hcg was in the lowest hundreds). I still didn’t had my period since the surgery. I was testing each week just to make sure the tests are negative. Been told we can try after 6 weeks. Well anyways me and the husband had an intercourse 2 weeks after the surgery just to see how do i feel about it. Ive done the test yesterday and it came back positive. Ive done the digital one this morning and it came back positive too. I just wonder whats the chances that my hormones were actually hasnt dropped fully and thats what tests are picking or is there any way I could of get pregnant so soon after. Any ideas are welcome. Especially if anyone has been in the same boat
Dear Daivulia,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Following ectopic pregnancy, it can take a few weeks for hCG levels to fall to non pregnant levels, which may explain your positive pregnancy test however, before having a period you have to ovulate and it is possible to become pregnant without having a proper period first, if you are not using contraception.
I would suggest speaking to your GP or medical team who may be able to complete serial blood tests to see what your hCG levels are doing. Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, please seek urgent medical advice with any abdominal pain, bleeding or you feel dizzy and unwell.
As a gentle reminder regarding conceiving again, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future. The first bleed soon after surgery for ectopic pregnancy is not classed as a period as it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Ive done so many tests and they are increasing its hard to believe this would be from the previous ectopic. Anyways ive done the digital one on Tuesday and it came back 1-2. Ive done one yesterday and it raised to 2-3. So ive rang epu and they booked me in for an early scan in 2 weeks time. So im guessing they think its a new pregnancy too as my hcg levels were very low before and never triggered anything stronger than a faint line on the test.
Fingers crossed things are good this time or at least can get some answers of what has just happened
Dear Diavulia,
I will be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts,
