Hi, I was hoping I could get some advice. I’m recovering from my fourth ectopic pregnancy but this time I had my right Fallopian tube removed. The surgery was 3 weeks ago and I did a pregnancy test a week ago because I was curious if my hcg levels had dropped, it was negative. I started bleeding 4 days ago and it lasted 2 days and wasn’t like a normal period. I tested this morning and it was positive. Is it common for the hcg levels to go up and down?
I’m going for a blood test in the morning but was wondering if anyone else experienced this.

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Following ectopic pregnancy, it can take a few weeks for hCG levels to fall to non pregnant levels, which may explain your positive pregnancy test.
Your surgery was just under a month ago and it maybe possible that the test is still showing hCG from ectopic pregnancy. It is possible for you have used differing test strips that one is less sensitive than the other. However, as I am not medically trained, I am unable to comment on why they seem to be rising and you are doing right thing in speaking to your doctors.
I thought I’d mention that before having a period you have to ovulate and it is possible to become pregnant without having a proper period first, if you are not using contraception. So although I do not wish to alarm you, as your levels are rising, I would like to gently remind you to seek urgent medical attention if you experience any unusual bleeding/pain/increased body temperature.
