Finally started to bleed after having surgery and they removed my tube. I am 14 days past sugery been bleeding for three days, no pain and it’s basically done, it was actually just like my regular period. I assumed the bleeding finally started cause my HCG reached 0 but when I take a hpt there is a faint very faint line. My HCG was 57 five days ago. I go back Monday for another draw. We DTD when we thought I was pregnant also three days after the surgery, could it be possible it’s a new pregnancy, or is it just the last bit of hcg, I thought the bleeding starts when levels reach 0? If I include the spotting it’s been 4 days now and two positive hpts one today and one yesterday.
Dear Ctw,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Following ectopic pregnancy, it can take a few weeks for hCG levels to fall to non pregnant levels, which may explain your positive pregnancy test.
It maybe possible that blood tests are still showing hCG from ectopic pregnancy. However, as I am not medically trained I am unable to specifically comment on why they remain.
Although I do not wish to alarm you, can I gently remind you to seek urgent medical attention if you experience any unusual bleeding/pain/increased body temperature.
Also as a gentle reminder, It is not unusual for women to bleed after treatment for ectopic pregnancy. This first bleed after treatment is a response to falling hormone levels and involves shedding of the uterine lining and is not classed as a period.
Regarding conceiving again, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future.
Sending much love,
Karen x
