Miracle pregnancy

Hi everyone I really need some advice as I’m freaking out.

2014 I had an iui which led to an ectopic on the right side the dr has told me from my notes my right tube was removed. 1st April this year I was a little late for Aunt Flo I did a test to rule out pregnancy and guess what a BFP showed up. We have been trying for 10 years and after ectopic was told natural conception would be 3,5%.

My question/s are. I’ve noticed since ectopic some cycles I get a achey cramp

Like pain on my right and since being pregnant I have felt it. I’m really worried it maybe another ectopic but the dr told me it may just be sensitive that side and as I have no tube it would of be my left I ovulated from. Also I’ve been very lightheaded but again I always have had low blood pressure and every once in a while it will get that low I’ll collapse. Being pregnant now I’m more worried I was actually sent to the urgent care unit which my pee sample showed extremely low ketones. As I’ve been having quite bad sickness and feeling sick dr said said it’s because I’ve not been drinking or eating.

When I rang my dr that 1st April when I found out I mentioned what happened previously and that my fertility dr wrote in a letter if I was to get pregnant naturally to have scans and be monitored early on. Thing is I’m not seeing midwife till 5th May I be 10 weeks and was told I can’t have a scan any earlier than 12 weeks. I think it maybe to do with Covid 19 but still I’m apprehensive.

Sorry to go on I was more concerned about the pain I’ve been getting on my right and thinki it’s an ectopic. Has anyone experienced this thanks in advance. X

Dear Milo88,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.

If you are in the UK, NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) set out national guidance on practice that should be routinely followed for care of women following ectopic pregnancy.

It clearly states that “woman should inform her GP as soon a possible about any future pregnancy so that an ultrasound scan can be arranged at 6–7 weeks to establish the location and viability of the pregnancy.”

I have provided the document here.

https://cks.nice.org.uk/ectopic-pregnancy#!scenario:1

So I would advise speaking to your GP again and quoting these NICE guidelines and asking them to arrange an early pregnancy scan for you in a more timely fashion. The coronavirus pandemic should not interfere with early pregnancy scans.

Some EPU’s also accept direct referrals so it maybe worth calling them directly, informing them of your previous ectopic pregnancy and asking if you can book in.

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, I sadly have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell to seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love, warm hugs and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Thanks for your reply. The only symptom I seem to have is the abdominal pain but as mentioned when I normally have a period I do feel more tender on the right dr said that to have this is normal but now obviously that im pregnant my mind is playing tricks on me. I have had dizziness but on Saturday was diagnosed with low ketones and this is why I’m experiencing the dizziness. I actually asked my dr if I could have an early scan to which he said if you go private you can (which if im honest we cannot afford) otherwise you will need to wait till you see midwife and go after. I explained my circumstances which he knew as he said I can see you’ve had ectopic. This didn’t seem to faze him and prompt him with an early scan xx

Dear Milo88,

Is there perhaps another GP in the surgery you could go to to ask to be booked in for an early pregnancy scan. I certainly would be pushing for this and asking them to confirm to you why they are going against NICE advice in treating you.

Sending much love,
