Pregnant after ectopic

Hi,

Sorry I know there are posts already about this. But I’ve just found out I’m pregnant after an ectopic in July where I had my left tube removed. I am 4.5weeks pregnant now and my hcg is 64. I’m so paranoid I ovulated later than expected and this is an early ectopic. I cant get it out of my head that it must be. I have pain on my right (but I’ve also had pains on the left and the middle) and they are all mild. I’ve just had two tiny spots of brown today, which were 5p sized and other than that nothing.

I’ve provisionally got a scan for Monday morning, but they levels may still be too small to see anything.

I feel absolutely devastated by all of this. Still trying to be positive but feeling worse everyday.

Has anyone had anything like this?

Thanks x

Hi all, first time on this forum.

I had an ectopic pregnancy last July. My tube ruptured on the day of my missed period so it was an a very early stage. I had surgery on the same day and lost the tube.

I had a hcg procedure earlier this month and am now pregnant- today is the first day of my missed period. I am thrilled but very anxious. I have booked in for an early scan at 6.5 weeks but it is a long wait- the nurse said that anything earlier would be inconclusive. Should I get my GP to do bloods in the meantime.? Any advice appreciated.

Hey, congrats on the pregnancy.

I’ve had my bloods done a couple of times & they are doubling…however I also had doubling bloods with my ectopic.

Can you not ask for a quantitative hcg test?

Just to see how high the levels are? (Mine are quite low still). It’s just there is a higher limit where surgery is recommended (>5000 I think? The nice guidelines will tell you). Just obviously with one tube it’s more of a worry. They can see the foetus on a scan when the levels are around 1500.

Hope you get sorted xxx

Dear Kimberley_j86,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,

In isolation, hCG tests only provide a part of the picture - declining levels indicate that a pregnancy has ended and will be miscarried. It can also possibly indicate an ectopic pregnancy that is “self-resolving”. Also hCG levels rising by less than 66% over 48 hours means it is likely (but not certain) that it is ectopic. If levels rise normally, they suggest the pregnancy is implanted in the uterus. You may see from this that hCG levels only indicate certain possibilities and are not in themselves a definitive guide. A positive identification of an implanted embryo on a scan is usually needed before a final diagnosis/certainty that the pregnancy has implanted in the uterus. This is possibly the reason why your doctors are waiting until your appointment to carry out scans and tests.

Having said this, I do think that if you are currently feeling pain which seems unusual and is concerning you and, in particular, if you experience any bleeding or spotting, it is better to get checked out to be on the safe side. As pain is unique to each person and I have such limited information, it would be better to get professional medical assistance by someone who can examine you. Visiting the hospital would give you peace of mind and, if you explain your previous ectopic pregnancy and the pains you are experiencing now, they would be able to check your symptoms and assist you.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Thanks Karen,

We had the scan today at 5 1/2 weeks and there’s a sac in my uterus. Feeling very relieved. Going back in two weeks to check progress, but so happy!

Thanks xx
