HCG increasing after Ectopic 1 month ago..

Hi gang, first time using this. I had a miscarriage in September and we tried again…ended up getting pregnant right away, however ended in an ectopic pregnancy where Fullopian Tube had to be removed in Decmeber. I am about a month from surgery and this past week have been finding myself nauseous and sensitive to smells…my stomach upset and boobs a bit bigger.

When I found out I was pregnant in November clear blue said 1-2 weeks. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it said 3+ weeks. My hubby and I had sex the day my Tube ruptured and have not had unprotected sex since.

Any insights?? Has this happened to anyone else before?

Thx so much!! And yes I am trying to let my body heal as we have gone through a lot.

You could be pregnant in the womb if your baby had passed and you’d ovulated, before the rupture which unless they did additional surgery could be untouched. You need to rerefer to EPAU if you’ve been discharged so you can be scanned to check it’s not ectopic on the other side (unlikely but ya know) and to check your numbers are going up.

Your body naturally drops hormones after you end the pregnancy but i guess if you got pregnant when the tube ruptured you would need the same hormones.

Did you have a bleed after your op with the womb lining shed?

The other alternative I’ve seen on the boards (I’m no expert just had a couple of months using the boards) is that occasionally a little tissue is left behind.

Definitely re refer yourself for scans and hcg. Fingers crossed it’s good news for you

Thanks for the reply. There was no bleeding prior to ectopic from vagina, nor after surgery.

How far along would you have been with the ectopic?

Get in to the EPAU tomorrow. Could be exciting news. That your womb lining didn’t shed makes me think your body thinks it needs it. Fingers crossed for you

It would have been 10 weeks ish. The earliest the Dr could see me is Wednesday next week.

As you’ve had an ectopic, I’d be self referring to the EPAU. They should be able to see you much sooner considering your recent surgery. You can self refer

Dear Ka414,

As you have had a recent positive pregnancy test, I would suggest contacting your EPU to organise an early pregnancy scan. If you are unable to self refer contact your GP as soon as possible so they can organise this for you.

Sadly I do have to remind you that if you experience any abdominal pain, bleeding, shoulder tip pain or feel dizzy and unwell please seek urgent medical advice.

I am aware you mentioned you haven’t had intercourse since the day of the diagnosis of your ectopic pregnancy, so as a gentle reminder regarding conceiving again for any one else reading this post. We and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future. The first bleed soon after surgery for ectopic pregnancy is not classed as a period as it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Thanks Karen for the input! I’m going this week to get blood work done. My hubby and I did have intercourse the morning for the ectopic. I have bled post op, which is also concerning.

Well. I got my blood work done and my HCG is at 68000…not sure what it means but I’m going in for an ultra sound today. Fingers crossed there’s been some miracle.

Wow!!! Any update?

I’m pregnant! 9 weeks 3 days. I had a heterotopic pregnancy. Still in shock and can’t believe the little babe made it through all that trauma. Xoxo

Woohoo!!! Congratulations girl!

WOW!! What a story to tell. Congratulation and so hope the rest of the pregnancy goes smoothly for you  xx

Miracles do happen … congratulations x

Congratulations! We too went through a heterotopic pregnancy, and now have a lovely 1 year old daughter. Take care of each other and share the love.
