Nervous

Hello,

I had an Ectopic Pregnancy back in July… (Diagnosed July 9th, hormones reached 0 on August 10th).

I have been ill a lot since this… i think its due to me being run down after a shitty year, my Granddad passed recently too and a close friend has been diagnosed with cancer… Anyway… I visited my doctor to talk about my worries about my body since the EP and he advised me to take a pregnancy test. I couldn’t understand why but i followed him advice and took one a test on Sunday and got a very faint positive. I took another and the same thing… very faint positive.

After what happened earlier in the year i don’t want to get my hopes up and we have decided to stay calm and re-test in a few days before ringing docs/EPU…

What do you think? Should i allow myself to believe I’m pregnant … I’m so scared that its going to be negative, or worse, another Ectopic. :frowning:

Dear HeatherB,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. When I fell pregnant after my ectopic pregnancy, my mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

We would recommend contacting your local EPU, reminding them of your previous ectopic pregnancy and booking in for an early scan at around 6weeks. Usually doctors carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo around this six week mark. If you are unable to refer directly, please contact your GP who will be able to refer you.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, sadly I do have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell please seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, this was not good news. After visiting the doctor it seems that I have had an early miscarriage or what might also be known as a Chemical Pregnancy. I had the positive pregnancy tests for 3 days, then at the doctors they found that the tests were now negative and said this is most likely due to there being a pregnancy but it not being able to implant. Another hit during a very difficult year.

On the plus side, as a result of this, the doctors are now referring me for scans to check the health of my ovaries and Fallopian tubes which I have felt aren’t right since my Ectopic in July/August, due to painful periods and ovulation.

Here’s hoping for a better 2018.
