Unprotected sex after a salpingectomy …

I have recently had a salpingectomy, 9 days ago. I know it seems crazy to say but I’m eager to have sex.

I have read that medical professionals encourage there to be two periods before trying again, but it seems this advice is to monitor timings for future pregnancy and I understand that but are there any risks relating to the operation? To my health? And If I conceived?

I obviously would listen to my body and not continue any penetration if it’s painful or uncomfortable.

Hi GemmaH7,

I am so sorry to hear that you have suffered an ectopic pregnancy and loss. I understand the desire to get back to our normal activities. I’m not medically qualified to comment on your specific situation. However, I encourage you to follow your recovery plan from the surgery and follow that guidance for sexual intercourse.

As you rightly mention, the TTC advice does allow time for physical healing, reestablishment of periods, taking folic acid, and emotional recovery.

In this way, the physical recovery from surgery might be the most important factor to consider at this moment, and then, secondarily, the timeframe for a successful TTC.

No matter what you decide, we are here for you any time and for as long as you need.

Sending good wishes,

Michele
