Much like other posts on here. Im desperate to try again so I can feel better and move on. I had an early miscarriage and removal of products of conception due to no development in 2016. After, we had 2 years of IVF heartache before being blessed with our beautiful daughter. Couldnt be more greatful for her in the months after my ectopic. We had vowed to relax and make trying for our next baby less pressured but the ectopic happened at our first attempt. The thought of another one happening scares me and each twinge when my periods due has me thinking its another. Once my periods returned to normal after my left tube removal at 6 weeks they were every 28 days like before but last month it was almost 2 weeks late! I did so many pregnancy tests and a blood test at the gp, all negative! When it came it was a relief but also so sad. Grieving again for a pregnancy that never was! Sounds stupid I know. I just wondered if anyone had gone through something similar with a change in their periods??
Dear eau04275,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and losses. To experience one loss is difficult, to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.
It is very common for periods to take quite some time to settle into a rhythm that is more usual for you following ectopic pregnancy. Periods can be delayed for a number of reasons including stress or even (as surprising as it may sound) excessive exercise or weight loss. Doctors normally consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters.
It is normal to feel anxious about the future. We experience a mix of emotions from wanting to try again to being petrified of what may lie ahead. We never forget, but we can learn to accept what happened. It is a slow process that might be weeks or months ahead. In time, we can get to a place where we feel comfortable trying again. When this is, is individual for each person. There is no timeframe for recovery, take each day as it comes.
Importantly early scans avail. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.
Sending much love,
Karen x
