I had surgery on 25th November to remove the pregnancy and my tube (no post operative bleeding). I then had a period that started on 30th December.
Following this we were told that we could start trying again. I have not had another period (39 days since the start of my last one) but have had some of my previous pregnancy symptoms (sore boobs etc). I have taken a couple of tests but they are negative.
I am just wondering at what point I need to get some advice/checks?
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss. Following ectopic and it can take a number of months for periods to fall back into a rhythm that is more normal for us. This is one of the reasons why we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. This “wait” is to allow your cycles to resume and have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - important information for checking for ectopic pregnancy in the future. It also allows time for your emotions to surface and be worked through after your ordeal.
Periods can be delayed for a number of reasons including stress or even (as surprising as it may sound) excessive exercise or weight loss. Doctors normally consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters. If you have not had your expected period, we would advise speaking to your GP or medical team.
Sending much love,
