Just found out that I am in very early stages of pregnancy. I had an ectopic in April so I’m a bit apprehensive! (as I’m sure you will all relate too!). Im not sure what I should be asking for from my GP now…I remember a Doctor saying that if/when I got pregnant again they could take bloods to make sure my hcg levels are rising properly but there was no mention of an early scan. Just wondered what happened with everyone else?
Each pregnancy after my ectopic I have had bloods done soon after finding out I was pregnant. As I was going through an IVF clinic (didn’t make it to transfer as I found out I was pregnant naturally) I had the first BT at 12DPO and a repeat at 14-15DPO. They were rising well ad I didn’t really need another but I had another 2 for piece of mind. I had pain probably from scaring so had a scan at 4.5weeks and 5.5weeks which showed basically nothing. My scan at 6weeks showed the pregnancy was in the right place.
I had another pregnancy that ended in m/c and I had BT’s for a month as they HCG was rising and falling in a similar but much lower pattern then my ectopic. It eventually resolved on its own.
With my currently pregnancy (now 36weeks) I had a BT at 16DPO and 21DPO and a scan at 5+4. No HB was seen but they could confirm the pregnancy was in the right spot.
I found out 2 weeks ago I was pregnant went straight to docs and she rang early pregnancy unit and booked me an appointment which was for today. I’m 5 weeks 5 days and they scanned to make sure it was in right place which it is although just yolk and sac present it was a sorry off my mind that it’s in the right place at least. I’m now booked in for another scan 2 weeks time. Please go straight to doc Hun it’s worth it. I was worried especially as I’m having constant pain but it’s my scars stretching. Good luck will be thinking of you xx
Thanks for the replies. I went to the Docs this afternoon and they agreed to do my bloods next week (wed&fri). She said they wouldn’t scan me early unless I had one sided pain that would indicate another ectopic. Not exactly reassuring! I’m guessing it’s possible to pay for one though? Was your scan at 5.5 an vaginal scan? I only ask as we have a clinic near (ish) to us that does private scans but not sure if they can do the vaginal ones?
Dear Ellie
Whispered congratulations on your news!
I would suggest contacting your early pregnancy unit direct to book you in for an early scan which would take place at around six weeks. That way, you have something in the diary and are “in the system” so to speak. Do remind the EPU of your previous ectopic pregnancy and you should be able to self-refer. We consider this the best way. With each of my pregnancies after my ectopic (which was my first pregnancy), I was able to get an appointment booked in direct in this way with no hesitation.
I don’t want to cause concern unnecessarily but if you do find you show any symptoms before your scan, do get medical attention right away.
I wish you a smooth journey ahead.

Yes Hun was vaginal, I had to practically beg for a scan, bloods don’t really say much as when I had ectopic my bloods came back fine xx
Thanks for the advise about contacting the early pregnancy unit. Called them today and they said my GP was wrong not to offer me an early scan. I have to phone back tomorrow to get one booked but very pleased I asked them directly as appose to just waiting around. They said they would suggest doing the scan when I’m around 5.5 weeks. Seems the same as you Charl. Just got an anxious week ahead now but feel better that I have a plan. thanks again xx
Aw great news Hun, epu told me to wait until I’m 7 weeks but doc told me to go in a week, I was 5.5 and although ul only see sac and yolk it’s a relief to know it’s in right place. Then they will re scan at about 8 weeks. I’m back next Friday 19th. Be thinking of you keep us updated xx
Congratulations Ellie_31
I’m glad you have gotten an early scan booked in as at least you have something to look forward to and focus on. I contacted my EPU directly to book myself in for a scan when I found out I was pregnant again (didn’t bother contacting my GP as they were useless before, during and after my ectopic) and they scanned me at 5+5 weeks. They could only see a sac and yolk sac but it was reassuring to know it was in the right place. They then booked me in for a scan 2 weeks later (which was yesterday) and they found a heartbeat It will feel like a long wait and I know it’s easier said than done, but try to relax and not stress out too much about it.
I have everything crossed for you. Please keep us updated.
Best wishes,
Clare
Just an update as promised. I had two early scans as first one was too early to see much and they have now confirmed my pregnancy is definitely in the womb Its still early days (7-8 weeks) but it’s a good start to rule out another ectopic. Thanks for your posts xx
