Pregnant after ectopic and stomach pains

I found out that I was having an ectopic pregnancy in my first pregnancy back in July. I ended up having my left tube removed.

I have just found out that I am pregnant again, and only 4.5 weeks. I am petrified. I have been having pain in my stomach, not just where the tube was removed but all over. It’s like a dull pain, with some cramping and sharp pains now and again and worse after I have eaten. I went to the early pregnancy unit but they said it was too early to see anything. Is it normal to feel pain like this after an ectopic surgery or even in a normal pregnancy?

I’m so nervous it’s another ectopic but I will have to wait a bit longer to get confirmation everything is ok.

Thanks

Hi

Just wanted to jump on to give you a little bit of hope.

I too had an ectopic pregnancy last year which resulted in a tube removal & found out just two weeks ago that I was pregnant again & ever since I found out I have been petrified!

I started having a lot of pain in my right side (the side with my only remaining tube is) & dull aches & cramping all over my stomach so I rang the EPU & they saw me right away as I was a high risk from having an ectopic before.

Anyway long story short everything is fine! Baby is in the right place & the pain has stopped, I had a feeling it was just in my head because I was panicking so much. I still have aches every so often but that’s completely normal as your uterus is starting to stretch.

Hoping this gives you a little bit of hope. sending you much love & hope x

Hi C Borris,

Hope you are ok, I also had wn ectopic in July and lost my left Fallopian tube. We found out Tuesday we were pregnant again, and so excited yet so anxious. I contact the early pregnancy unit who said to ring back the end of next week to book in for a scan the following week. I’ve been having groin pain like dull aches and backache but no spotting this time. My hcg was 18,500 at 5 weeks last time so I’m so anxious about loosing my remaining tube. Would just be happy now to see the sac in the right place I think once hcg 2000 it can be seen I believe?

Got everything crossed for you , I’ve read lots of positive stories which are reassuring.

Best wishes

Tara

It’s encouraging to hear that the pains I am feeling are normal, as that was one of my fears. The pain still comes and goes, but as long as it’s normal then I can persevere! I’m so happy to hear your scan went well  are you all pain free now?

I had my bloods taken this week and my hcg went from 701 to 1800 in 48 hours, so that was a massive relief. I am going in for a scan on Tuesday, so fingers crossed everything goes well.

Tara, if you feel pain then the epu might offer to do the hcg blood tests to make sure that your levels are increasing as they should. That helped with my anxiety a lot.

Lots of love and hope

C Borris- that’s reassuring news- best wishes for your scan on Tuesday- please let us know how you get on.

I’m going to see how it goes over the next couple of days and if they get any worse I’ll contact them. I feel it’s really early still, it feels as though I’m going to get my period.

Best wishes - fingers crossed for you

Tara

Dear ladies,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancies,

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

Speaking from UK medical practice and standards, usually doctors carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo around this six week mark.

We advise contacting your local EPU, reminding them of your ectopic pregnancy and booking an appointment. If you are unable to self refer, contact your GP who will be able to do this for you.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, I sadly have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, worsening abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell to seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

@Lauren. Could you describe the type of pain you had? Where you ever told by the doctors why you experienced the pain?

@Cborris. Im sorry you’re going through all the anxiety, any update?

Im going through the same. Ever since ovulation I’ve been having pain on my left side, where my remaining tube is, i just got my possitive on the 18th and I am so scared. I feel like it’s going to end up ectopic again because the pain i feel is very similar to last time. I am dreading my appointment which is scheduled for next Wednesday. I hope with all my heart its in the right place, but my gut tells me its another ectopic :broken_heart:

Hoping for the best, love and hope to you!
