Post Ectopic Pregnancy

Hello, I had an ectopic Pregnancy removed late July this year at 6 weeks 3 days. Unfortunately the pregnancy ruptured and I had my right tube removed. We tried again for the first time earlier this month, for the past 7 days I have been very nauseous if I don’t eat regularly or eat too much, tired, headaches, acne. Alongside this I have pain in my right side radiating into my groin and lower back. It comes strong sometime and eases off again to a dull pain. I have taken numerous tests and they are all negative but my period is due in 6 days so I would be very early. I am wondering if anyone else who has gotten pregnant after an ectopic has experienced pain where they have had a tube removed? ( Just to add I have three periods since the ectopic all normal with no pain on my right side).

Dear Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss.
We can experience pain following ectopic pregnancy at times and in places we have never had pain before. This can be very common.
I would advise taking an early morning pregnancy test on the day of your next expected pregnancy.
If this is positive and you continue to experience pain and nausea, please seek urgent medical advice. If it is negative and you have concerns, again do not hesitate to seek medical advice.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Hi Lisamc37,

I have been looking for someone who has a similar story to me. I had my left tube removed in September at 6 weeks. My partner and I decided to try again after one cycle and I’m now in the 2 week wait, I think I am about 5dpo, and I am having cramps on my left side where my tube was removed. I haven’t tried taking a test yet as I know it’s too early.

I was wondering how you are getting on?

Hi Hollie, Sorry to hear you have gone through this as well. Hope you are feeling ok. So I wasn’t pregnant this time around, my period arrived 1 day late and I never got a positive pregnancy test. I have had 4 periods since my tube was removed. The first 3 were normal I had very little pain on my right side ( Tube was removed) and normal length and mild period cramps. However this cycle was very different. I had so many pregnancy symptoms from 7 dpo. The week approaching my period due due date the pain in my right side was excruciating and came with many ectopic pregnancy like symptoms ( Shoulder pain and back passage pressure) and my period was extremely heavy this time. Thankfully once my period stopped everything went back to normal and the pain is gone. My GP and consultant midwifes told me the pain is likely due to scar tissue and can happen and clearly my hormones are all over the place. The advise I was given is that If I get a positive test and I have pain on either side then I would need to be reviewed in hospital straight away. Its hard to not think the worst when you start to get pain and I really struggled with it mentally this month but try and stay positive and hopefully your cramps are also scar tissue related and it all works out for you this month.

Thank you for your response and sorry to hear you got a negative test after this. Although this is reassuring for me as I didn’t know that scar tissue could cause pain like this. I’m hoping that this could be the case. My first period after my surgery was a couple days longer than it usually would be and maybe I should have waited a couple more cycles for it to regulate but I just feel so impatient and selfishly wanted to TTC again to know if my next pregnancy would be ectopic or not. I never got pain on a particular side with my ectopic so I don’t know if this is all in my head or if I’m just pin pointing every twinge I feel! It is good to know that the hospital will review you straight away if you are having any pain once you get a positive test. Thanks again and sending baby dust to you
