Hello,
I have found out today that I am pregnant. I had an ectopic pregnancy in Dec last year. I have been trying since February so it has happened quite quickly…To my surprise!
I’ve had to come home from work today as I found out n was in total shock -whilst we have been trying, it’s still a shock and I’m having very mixed emotions which I do think is normal…
I’ve called my doctors today, they can’t fit me in for a routine appointment till next Tuesday. I’m in a proper panic now as I had the ectopic pregnancy which ruptured at 5weeks 5days - I was told this is quite early for a rupture. Now as I’m four weeks today…I’m worried that the same will happen…just want a scan to be able to know!!
What have other people’s experiences been when they have become pregnant after an ectopic? How has healthcare professionals responded? I just feel that waiting a week for an appointment to then be referred for a scan is useless!!!
Thanks in advance x
Hi I’ve just posted a very similar question my EP was in January at 9 weeks which I was told is late and lost my left side. I’m petrified!!!
We weren’t told anything so I’m unsure if I go via gp or contact EPAU directly? Be interested to find out from those who have been there before?
Hey in response to ur post Maddy moo and Emma b, First of all congratulations
I previously had a miscarriage at 11 wks preg in October 14 and after I had a PUL (miscarriage or ectopic preg… they are not sure which one) at 7 weeks preg in March 15.
I then got preg for a 3rd time which o found out in Jan 16, I was 4/5 weeks wen took the test.
I was able to go to a doctors appointment a week later at 5/6 weeks preg but they just worked out my due date.
A couple of days later I rang local epu ( Which they previously advised me to do if I was to get preg to book me for an early scan)
The epu said it was too early to scan me before 6 weeks preg… so they booked me in for an early scan when I was 6 +4.
I was scared between waiting n having scan n worried re pains n cramps id get especially on my right side where my suspected ectopic had been.
But at my scan they was able to see a sac n baby in right location. ( they never took my blood test)
Then I didn’t have a book in appointment with midwife for blood test n family history etc until I was 9+2 wks preg. I then had a 12 wks scan and iv just had another 17+2 wks scan n all is good Thank God. I’m now 18+3 wks preg.
So I think u should both contact ur epu straight away to arrange an early scan n iv heard of some women who get to have their first early scan at 5 wks preg… where sometimes only baby n sac can be seen and then they have to go bak a week or two later to see the baby’s heartbeat.
Good luck to u both… im thinking of you. I really hope all is well. Let.me know how u get on.
Princess Pink x x
Dear Maddy Moo1990 and Emma-b,
To you both, whispered congratulations on your pregnancies.
I would echo the advice kindly given by princess pink and advise you both to contact your local EPU directly giving them the history of your previous ectopic pregnancies.
Honestly Maddy Moo1990, your mix of emotions is completely normal and the wait for scans is very hard.
I am sending positive thoughts and much love,
Karen x

I too found out I am pregnant again a few days ago and I’m in the same boat x
I had my eptopic last November and lost my right tube as well. Mine was confirmed when I was nearly 6 weeks after days of being in agony and on/off blood loss from the day I got a light pink line. I took myself to a&e on two occasions and was told I was probably just miscarrying, until they agreed to do a scan a day or two later which confirmed it. I had emergency surgery that day, as it had ruptured.
I’m 4 weeks today and my pregnancy tests have been looking normal this time and that’s giving me hope. Last time I just ‘knew’ something wasn’t right as my pg tests took ages to get darker. And so far no pain n bleeding. I’m ringing the Drs tomorrow and I can usually get an appointment quite quickly. I’m hoping they can just scan me at 6 weeks to check its where it should be, but I guess I will just have to see what they say. I don’t think you can self refer yourself to the EPAU here.
All the best to you xxx and keep us updated of how you get on xxxx keeping all my fingers and toes crossed us xxxx
I am feeling worried…my lines on the pregnancy tests were really faint before and are now. On both times I did a digital pregnancy test which has confirmed that I was pregnant both in Dec when I had the ectopic pregnancy and now.
I have had some pain in the abdomen area. This was on Saturday (before I knew I was pregnant) and last night and today when I laughed strangely…I’m struggling to pinpoint which side the starts at but its more the left side (where I have no tube).
I can’t get in the doctors till next Tuesday. Women’s health won’t accept referrals direct -has to come from health professional and even then they won’t offer a scan before 7weeks and told me there next app for a scan was 27th may! They also said that they would do a blood test before a scan was done to check hcg levels - what are they looking for when they do this? I never had time ask about results of a blood test before.
I even rang non emergency health line - as I wasn’t in pain at that exact moment…they said they wouldn’t call back for three days!
I’m so frustrated! I don’t know what to do…I’m pretty good at being proactive so even called family planning clinics to get an appointment/ask advice but no luck there! Starting to think I’m gunna be portrayed as a crazy person imagining it al/exaggerating.
I’m just thinking, what happens if I lose this tube…I don’t want to sound like I’m overreacting…I just didn’t have barely any pain or bleeding last time, but I do have the occasional shooting pain currently as described above.
Any more advice would be very welcome…think I might have had a nervous breakdown before 7weeks!!!
Thanks in anticipation xxxx
It’s really hard to not worry, so I won’t try to tell you not to! But, the pains you are having could be perfectly normal.
It sounds like you are doing everything you can to get in to see someone. With blood work, they will test your HCG levels. Ideally, they will test them twice, two days apart, as with a normal pregnancy, they should double around every two days.
My experience is that I didn’t get any special treatment this pregnancy. I didn’t get an early scan or multiple blood tests like I asked for, and was told I should get. However, I did keep calling and hassling and eventually ended up at the ER at 7 weeks with some spotting and got a scan there and the baby was in the right spot and fine.
So, I’d say keep calling. If you feel at all like you’re having a repeat ectopic, don’t be afraid to go to the emergency room. I know it’s tough when you didn’t have many symptoms last time.
But, like I said, r pains you’re having now could be normal. I had a lot of stretching pains in the first few weeks of this pregnancy. If you had your tube removed, there is scar tissue in here that could be pulling. The faint lines on the test could be just that you ovulated later and therefore aren’t that far along yet, so your test lines are lighter.
Good luck. I hope you can get some reassurance from medical staff soon. The waiting is hard, and so stressful after what you’ve been through.
