Pregnancy after ectopic

Hi everyone,

I’ve waited and waited before posting this message as I guess, there’s always been a different sort of anxiety after previously having an early miscarriage and then an ectopic pregnancy within 4 months of each other.

Following the news of having an ectopic pregnancy after a trip to A&E in late March - I had a left salpingectomy (removal of my left Fallopian tube). It was a really tough time and a long recovery process both physically and mentally.

With the removal of my tube I was grieving not only the loss of what could have been with this baby but also the reduced chances of conceiving in future. I had a good support network but used these forums regularly to seek advice and support from others who have been through an ectopic pregnancy.

Once my cycle had returned regularly - we waited a couple of cycles before trying again. We knew chances were less but wanted to try and get back to a bit of normality. We somehow conceived on this first try!

I wasn’t expecting this at all but was having some shooting pains that I’ve never had before on my right side of my ovaries. After an anxious wait to see the location at 5 weeks - thankfully it was in the right place! I am now 33 weeks pregnant and very much looking forward to this next chapter.

I entered this pregnancy with a very different perspective to previous times however I wanted to share this with you as I had been trawling through these stories for comfort when I was in recovery.

I know it might not be so easy to conceive again in future with the chances I now have but I hope this brings some comfort.

Take care

Ozno,

Thank you so much for posting. This gives me so much hope! I have been having sharp pains on the side where my remaining tube is and i have been so scared thinking this will be another ectopic. I have my first appointment today to start my care and hopefully will have a placement scan soon. Im a nervous wreck, but possitive stories like this is what i need to hear today, THANK YOU!!!

Congratulations on your baby! Wishing you a smooth rest of your pregnancy and uncomplicated labor! Best wishes!!

Thank you so much for this. I had my left tube removed too. It was my first ever pregnancy.

We’ve just started trying again after a couple of cycles. I’m nervous but I’m hoping everything happens for a reason, and this will be our time!

Dear Onzo,

I completely understand how you feel. I didn’t relax properly until my baby was in my arms!

What wonderful news, huge congratulations on your pregnancy and thank you so much for taking the time to post about your experience. You can already see how much hope it brings.

Enjoy that first cuddle and give baby an extra little squeeze from the team here.

Sending much love,

Karen x

Dear ozno,

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

I went through the same experience of ectopic pregnancy and It ended up with my left tube removed. Do i was looking for stories that could give me some hope. Thanks for sharing yours.

May i ask how many months did you wait before trying again. And i want to mention that i have some frozen embryos from my last ivf cycle, so do you think I give them a try?

Thanks in advance

Thank you all for your well wishes.

Sorry for the very late reply. I had a baby girl on 12 March so things have been a bit of blur these past weeks!

We waited 2 cycles post surgery before starting to try again. I’m not quite sure about your question on IVF but hopefully someone else is better placed to advise.

Really hope it works out for you all x
