After my ectopic pregnancy removal in August 2019 I felt very lost! It was a shock and to loose a baby and my right Fallopian tube I didn’t know what to expect. I consulted with 2 different obstetricians and they both assured me my fertility hadn’t changed at all even though my tube was removed.
I read so much online and still wasn’t convinced. Anyway, I recently found out I am pregnant and I had my first scan a couple of days ago. It has been the most nerve racking time (scared with every pain).
The sac is in the right place which is such a relief. Now I am awaiting my next scan for a heartbeat. But I was told at my 1st scan I conceived with my right ovary. My left tube picked it up and I conceived! So for all you non believers or if you’re worried I hope this gives you a little hope! It can happen!
As good as these forums are and online, always check with your doctor!!
Good luck everyone!
Hi Ausgirl1! Wow Congratulations!
I had surgery on 7.1.20 (the nurses couldn’t tell me which side - I’ve requested my records!) so 4 weeks on Tuesday ago! I haven’t been advised by the hospital or any medical professionals how long we need to wait till we try again…although I’m waiting for a period at least! I’m guessing this will be fine?! Good luck! Let us know how ur scan goes! X
Dear Ausgirl1,

Dear Mrs Hodgkin,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Regarding trying to conceive following surgery, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future. The first bleed soon after surgery for ectopic pregnancy is not classed as a period as it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels.
Please note that the first bleed after an ectopic pregnancy, is not classed as a period - it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels as you are sadly no longer pregnant and shedding of the uterine lining that had build up which involves bleeding.
Sending much love,
Karen x
