needing stories of hope!

Hi All,

I’ve been following this board since being treated for my ectopic pregnancy on April 1st. I was successfully treated with methotrexate and am impatiently waiting the three months until we can try again. My HCG only ever reached 288 and I didn’t have any “risk factors” and the doctor seems to think that it is “unlikely” to happen again but I am still worried. Has anyone else had methotrexate and then went on to have a successful pregnancy? I feel as though a lot of ladies have had to have their tube removed and while I am thankful I was able to avoid surgery I am still scared because the “bad” tube is still there. I know the statistics say that there isn’t really a difference in regards to the likelihood of having a successful pregnancy after methotrexate vs. tube removal but I’m looking for some real stories! So tired of statistics. Thanks in advance ladies!

Hi,

I had an ectopic last December and as my hormones were so low I was treated using expectant management. This is where they effectively watch and wait for the pregnancy to end itself which mine did (it was a long process involving a lot of blood tests). So like you I did not lose a tube. My ectopic was suspected to be in my right tube but was never 100% confirmed. I was nervous about the fact that my tube might be damaged and lead to another ectopic but I’m happy to say I am now 8 weeks pregnant and the baby is in the right place! The sonographer also said this baby was conceived from my right ovary so the same side as suspected with my ectopic but it made it to the right place unlike the last one.

Hi,

I also had an ectopic pregnancy which was treated with Methotrexate. My levels reached 780s by the time I was 7 weeks. I spoke to the EAU about “the bad” tube being there but they reassured me that even if an egg was released from my bad side the other side knows it and would release extra fluid to help the egg get to the right place. She did however say that because this is my first pregnancy I am of a higher risk of having another ectopic which scares me a little but I have to hope and pray that mother nature will do its best to help me get pregnant in the future. You are not alone

BonnieZ - Thank you for sharing and congratulations!!! Your story makes me very hopeful!

Emmie_85 - That is the first time that I have ever heard about an increased chance of ectopic pregnancy simply because your first pregnancy was your ectopic. I have done a LOT of googling and never come across that one, I think in general having an ectopic increases your risk but not because it was your first! This was also my first pregnancy :expressionless: I’m sorry you are also in the same boat but it is nice to know we aren’t alone!

I have been told that I am at a higher risk of having another one because it is my first in comparison to someone normal. (Normal was the term the nurse used :? ) if I get pregnant I am to self refer to my local Early Pregnancy Unit and have a scan by 6 weeks. She said people who have a normal pregnancy have their scan at 12 weeks. If you have had a miscarriage it’s 8 weeks and ectopic pregnancies are 6 weeks. Perhaps you could ask your EAU for advice on that one. I’m currently going back to my doctor because although I had the Methotrexate shot 3 and 1/2 weeks ago I’m getting unbearable pains where I can’t even walk. Did you have any trouble pain wise after your shot?!

Hello

I had an ectopic in May 2013 (my second pregnancy - emergency c-section with first which I believe caused internal damage, hence the ectopic) and I had to have two injections of Methotrexate but kept the tube. I waited 5 months just to be safe and then conceived straightaway. I have a happy, healthy little girl who will be 2 in the summer.

Since her birth I have had mild discomfort on the ectopic side each month at time of ovulation but nothing major. My hormones also went a bit crazy and I got severe PMDD each month but that is all under control now. I don’t know if the ectopic played a part in that or not.

Don’t lose hope. There are lots of stories like mine on this forum. Give yourself time to recover. X

Emmie_85 - I didn’t really have that many issues after the shot… Has your pain gotten any better??

GemmaB - thank you for sharing your hopeful story! Brightens my day!
