Second ectopic

Hi everyone,

I had my first ectopic in December 2014 (left tube ruptured). I had a successful pregnancy in 2016 and welcomed a healthy boy with my one remaining right tube (so blessed to have him in my life). Christmas 2017 I fell pregnant with my third pregnancy only to realize very early on that it was another ectopic. This time I was given MTH at 5 weeks 6 days and within three weeks my bloods were back down to 1. I was wondering has anyone had a successful pregnancy in their 1 remaining tube after it was treated with Methotrexate? I’m currently waiting on my second cycle to do the HSG Test to see if the pregnancy left any blockages; I had a laparoscopy two months prior to the second ectopic & consultant said tube was clear (he removed endometriosis only). I have so much anxiety since this all happened. Can anyone give me a success story that could give me some hope. Thanks xx

Hello MGE2018

I was treated with methotrexate for an Ep October 2016. I did conceive from the same tube 2 months after it but sadly I had my ever first missed miscarriage, my beautiful sleeping baby boy Gabriel. I then had another Ep from the same side was treated with methotrexate again. I am currently in the tww to see if I have falling, hopefully if I have it’s in the right spot.

So for your question yes it can happen and congratulations on your rainbow baby boy. All the best for the future

So sorry to hear about the loss of your baby Gabriel. I wish you all the luck in the world for your new pregnancy; take care & thanks for your message x

Dear MGE2018,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses. Dealing with one loss is difficult, experiencing multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

We do here from many women who have successfully conceived following multiple losses due to ectopic pregnancy. It is good to hear that you are already under consultant care and have planned investigations, I hope these give you some reassurance.

In terms of chances of future successful pregnancies, studies do not show a significant difference between treatment routes, whether surgical, medical using methotrexate or expectant management (allowing time for the body to resolve the pregnancy itself).

Sadly it is not possible to stop an ectopic pregnancy but help is available. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.

Making the decision to begin trying to conceive is an emotional rollercoaster compounded by our sad loss. Again, you are not alone. We here emotional support whenever you need us.

Sending much love,

Karen x
