keep trying after topic or wait for iVF?

hello everyone. hoping to get some advise/opinions on this. I have endometriosis and had an ectopic resolved by expectant management. I am on the waiting list for IVF due to start either Jan or Feb. Should I keep trying naturally until then or just wait for the IVF? I’m concerned about another ectopic from a natural conception. I know there’s still a change of ectopic from IVF but they doctors told me the chances are lower. Been trying for 2 years.

Thank you

Dear lexie_uk,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss.

Sadly I am not medically trained and we do not have access to your medical health records so I would advise discussing this with your GP or fertility specialist. You would not have to make an appointment for this, you should be able to get an answer to your query from a telephone consultation.

I am also not sure when you had your ectopic pregnancy but as a gentle reminder regarding conceiving again, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future. The first bleed soon after surgery for ectopic pregnancy is not classed as a period as it is the body’s response to falling hormone levels.

Sending much love,

Karen x
