Hello everyone, I’m new to this forum, my name is Becca and I’m 24.
Nearly 6years ago I suffered my first ectopic pregnancy which resulted in me losing my left fallopien tube and found out I have endometriosis, a month after surgery I found out I was expecting again & I have a beautiful healthy 5year old daughter.
I ended up suffering my second ectopic pregnancy (whilst on the pill - cerelle) and had surgery on Saturday, luckily they managed to save my right fallopien tube, but I’ve been told I’m still high risk of having another ectopic. Has anyone else experienced 2 ectopics and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy after? I’m so blessed to have my daughter but I’d have loved one more child.
Dear Beccaallen92,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses, experiencing one loss is difficult, to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.
We hear regularly of women who have successfully conceived following multiple ectopic pregnancies. Importantly early scans avail. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.
We commonly experience a mix of emotions from wanting to try again to being petrified of what may lie ahead. Sadly we cannot prevent ectopic pregnancy but It may be comforting to know that 65% of women are successfully pregnant within 18 months of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and some studies suggest this rises to around 85% after two years.
Making the decision to begin trying to conceive is an emotional rollercoaster compounded by our sad loss. Again, you are not alone. We here emotional support whenever you need us. There is a specific TTC board you can look at too whenever feel ready. We also have a board, pregnant after ectopic pregnancy, you may find women have posted about successful pregnancies on that forum too.
Sending much love,
Karen x
