Recent Eptopic - right tube removal, scared to try again

Hi all,

Last Monday I found out at 7 weeks pregnant that my sweet baby was eptopic :frowning: I had surgery on the same day to remove the baby and the right tube…

I’m recovering well physically and have stopped bleeding yesterday and pain is getting a lot better… I’m struggling emotionally at the moment and feel

Very hurt and angry, angry with myself, my body and life for it happening to me when I wanted this baby so badly :frowning: I have great support and a gorgeous 17 month old daughter to help me through this though and I will get there… I’m scared to try again but want another baby so badly, we have decided to wait 2 cycles and then start trying… Looking for some success stories really and some positivity to help me?

Hi Hayley,

I am very sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy and loss. Recovery from an ectopic, both physically and emotionally takes time, and I’d encourage you to continue to provide yourself time to heal. Many women experience a mix of feelings and this can include grief, hurt at loss and anger. Trying not to blame yourself is important, as it is no fault of yours, and nothing sadly, could have been done from stopping the ectopic pregnancy from happening.

While it is not possible to prevent an ectopic pregnancy from happening again, it is possible to conceive after ectopic pregnancy. Having your ovaries and remaining tube allow for a healthy pregnancy to be possible. I also thought I would mention that the numbers are on our side with future pregnancies as 65 per cent of women are healthily pregnant within 18 months of an ectopic pregnancy and some studies show this rises to around 85 per cent after two years.

Importantly, help is available with future pregnancies with an early scan at around six weeks gestation. This is to check that the embryo is in the right place and we suggest contacting your local EPU direct to book this in when you next become pregnant. I also experienced an ectopic pregnancy and had my right Fallopian tube removed and understand how shocking it is to go through that. I hope it can offer some comfort to know that I have since managed to conceive successfully with my remaining left Fallopian tube.

It’s normal to feel scared about trying again as you’ve been through a frightening experience, and it’s natural to wonder what future may hold. You are absolutely right to wait two menstrual cycles (first bleed is not classed as a period as it is body’s response to falling hormone levels). After this wait, whenever you are ready to try again, we can be here to support you and are here for as long as you need.

Cheers,

Michele

Hi Hayley.

Very sorry to hear about your ectopic. I was in the same situation as you in June and struggled to make the decision as to try again or not I also have a daughter who was 2 at the time. I decided to go for it! Waited for 2 cycles and I’m currently 12 weeks pregnant.

It can happen again and it can be in the right place!

You will go through many mixed emotions about whether you should try again or not, jut need to do it when you feel ready.

And it can happen again and be in the right place!!

Xxx

Wow your story echoes mine nearly exactly… A fortnight ago We lost our baby at 7 weeks and I had surgery to remove my right tube… I’m thankful for my 21 month old boy, but this doesn’t mean I feel the loss less keenly. I wish you the very best of luck and I will be sending lots of positive thoughts your way. I think it may be too soon for us to be thinking about trying again, but I wish you all the luck in the world. Please keep us posted x
