Second ectopic pregnancy - IVF

Hi, I’ve not long experienced my second ectopic loss, a year in from my first. I still hadn’t recovered from my first loss. I’ve been struggling to deal with not only the loss of my baby but now the loss of both of my fallopian tubes, meaning I’m no longer able to conceive naturally. While I’m trying to overcome the grief I’m slightly relieved that I won’t have to deal with this again, however I feel guilty thinking that way. We would still like to have another child (we have one healthy and lively 4 yo boy) and IVF is a path we are willing to go down. Does anyone have any IVF success stories after ectopic?

Sorry for rambling, just find it hard to find a place in society where people are willing and not uncomfortable to talk about it.

Thanks :purple_heart:

Hi Laura3004,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses, to experience one loss is difficult, to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.

It is natural to be worried after everything you have been through. Sadly even with IVF there is the risk of ectopic pregnancy and as you have suffered the condition twice there is sadly an increased risk. However it is important to remember that help is available and your doctors should book you in for an early scan at around six weeks to check that the embryo is in the right place. I am not sure where you are located but if you are in the UK you can also contact your local Early Pregnancy Unit direct and self refer for an early scan. This can also give you peace of mind that you have the care available should you need some reassurance.

I cannot give you specific advice on IVF, however the Trust has some guidance on its website, including eligibility for NHS funded IVF here (at the bottom of this page): https://ectopic.org.uk/physical-recovery/trying-to-conceive-again.

Please know we are here for you for as long as you need.

With good wishes,
Michele
