Hello everyone
I had an ectopic pregnancy in May and since then my cycles have gone from 32-35 days to 43-46 days! Has anyone else experienced this? It’s heart breaking because each month I think ‘oh I might be pregnant’ and I do a bunch of tests and all come back negative and then I get my period. Tried getting an appointment at the doctors but they don’t have any appointments for three more weeks.
I was given no aftercare or advice after my pregnancy so not sure if this is to be expected.
Many thanks
Dear Floey,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
It is normal for periods to take a while to get back into a rhythm that is more normal for us and some people experience menstrual irregularities for some time. Why this is is sadly unknown.
Broadly speaking, doctors consider menstrual (period) cycles of between 23 to 42 days to be within normal parameters, but I would advise booking that appointment to ask more questions. I’m sorry you have to wait so long.
I hope I can reassure you a little by saying that 65% of women are successfully pregnant within 18 months of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and some studies suggest this rises to around 85% after two years.
Sending much love,
Karen x
