Hi I either need some reassurance or advice please as I’m worried that my body isn’t doing what it should. It’s been over 3 months now since my ectopic pregnancy and removal of my right tube and I still haven’t had a period! I’ve had a few days of spotting but nothing at all for a while now apart from a few cramps now and again. I have pcos so my periods are very irregular and cycles are long anyway but not normally this long. Anyone else had similar?!
Dear Makeawish,
It is common for periods to change post ectopic pregnancy, mine did too.
Periods can be delayed for a number of reasons including stress or even (as surprising as it may sound) excessive exercise or weight loss. Doctors normally consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters. As it has been more than 42 days since the first day of your last period, I would suggest asking your doctors to investigate further. Also, while I do not want to alarm you, if you experience any pain or unusual bleeding, please do get medical attention as soon as you can.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Hi Makeawish,
Sorry for what you have been through.
Just wanted to take the time to reply…after my first ectopic, I didn’t have a period for nearly 5 months. After my second, I bled almost 1 month to the day.
Your body has been through a trauma, so may take a while to adjust/repair. This twinned with your poly’s and understandable anxiety, might be affecting your cycle too.
Sorry to waffle, just wanted to share my experience and try to reassure you, that there’s probably no ‘normal’.
I hope you’re doing ok.
Hello Karen and Ishrodo.
Thank you both for responding to my post.
I’ve been fairly positive about the whole thing up until now. The fact my body isn’t doing what it’s supposed to is making me more frustrated as I just want to be able to start fresh. But that can’t happen until my body is physically ready. It’s good to know that it took your body that length of time to have a period Ishrodo as I’ve done a lot of reading and most people say their period returned after around 6 weeks.
Thank you!
