Can internal scan show up blocked tube?

Or is it just through a Hcg or lap&dye?

Hi ladies,

Having had my left tube removed in May due to EP, hubby and I have been TTC since with no success. Although its early days yet (TTC for 4m), am scared that my remaining tube is blocked - prompted by odd pain here and there on my right side. Anyways, I don’t want to TTC for another 9m before finding out I can’t get preg, so taking the matter into my own hands and going to see a fertility consultant (having raided the Xmas piggy bank). My appointment is not until Jan, but Dr have asked to do an internal scan and collect semen sample etc. I know really want to go down that road as i know am still ovulating (temping) and hubby’s swimmers are fine (we have a 2yr old girl and EP in may), plus its extremely expensive. Anyways, what I want to ask is if the Dr can see through an internal ultra sound scan if my remaining tube is blocked or can this only be done via Hcg or lap&dye?

Sorry, should say hsg!

Hi there,

The answer is yes if it’s bad enough to hold fluid. The majority of fertility consultants offer the scan as part of an initial consultation so to be able to diagnose treatment needed. Generally we had sperm analysis done through GP and given results over as long as they were done within the last 6months. This keeps costs down!

Good luck. Xxx
