Due to have my remaing tube tested. So scared

Hi ladies,

I’m hoping someone can help me out here.

I suffered an EP 15 months ago and lost my left tube due to it rupturing.

I’ve been given an app to have my remaining tube ‘tested’. No ones explained what’s going to happen and I’m terrified. It’s bad enough I’m expecting bad news but I need to know what’s going to happen before I go.

Can anyone give me a rough idea what to expect.

I know it involves dye. But is it a drink, injection ect.

Do the scan to see if the tubes working?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Shibhon, it sounds like you may be having a HSG, but I suggest you speak to the doctor who referred you to make sure. If it is a HSG it is where dye is inserted into your fallopian tubes to see whether they are open or blocked. I had one a few months ago and it was over very quickly and wasn’t at all as painful as I thought. You lie on a bed and open your legs and they insert a tube into your vagina and cervix then they push the dye through the tube which flows into your uterus and tubes. If the tube is open the dye will spill through. Whilst they do this they will take xrays so they can see what’s going on. They will also be able to assess your womb as well as your tubes.

I totally understand how terrified you are, I was exactly the same. What helped me to get through it was knowing that I was going to find some answers and even if it was bad news, I could then do something about it rather than keep ttc in vain and wasting precious time. When I arrived at the x-ray department on the day I was crying and in bit of a state but the ladies there were all so lovely that they immediately put me at ease. I was really surprised at how quickly it was done (about 10 minutes I think). My advice to you would be to take painkillers beforehand. Also, I asked to be given antibiotics as there is a small risk of infection. As an extra precaution you could also have a chlamydia test beforehand to ensure it is negative.

When I was told I needed to have a HSG the doctor gave me a leaflet which explained all about it. If you haven’t been given one, you should definitely ask.

I hope this has helped.

Let me know if you have any more questions,

Take care, Sarah x

Hi,

I was just wondering- did the hospital get back in touch with you after the op to give you tests on your remaining fallopian tube? or has it been because you have not conceived in that period of time. I’m sorry for asking this personal question but I have very recently lost my right tube and am getting scared about struggling to conceive in the future.

xx

Good luck with the tests and the very best for the future
