Anyone starting IVF this month? Jan 2014

Well…here we go! It has been a while since I posted on here but Im am once again needing the support and guidance that all you ladies so loving give! Little bit about my past…i have had three EP’s in the past two years and have lost both of my tubes :frowning: It has been a long hard road full of heartbreaks but we are trying again. We are starting our first cycle of IVF any day now. Just waiting for Auntie Flo to head my way! Never been so excited for that ever in my life! LOL. We are so excited but absolutly terrified at the same time. I am needing some guidance from you ladies that have been through IVF with how you managed your stress/worry and maybe some further insight as to what to expect…ect. Also looking for a some cycle buddies if anyone is starting a cycle this month as well. Would love to have someone to talk to about it and go through the process with. Look forward to talking with everyone and I am so glad I have women that truly understand my situation. If I can be of any help to anyone please dont hesitate to reach out to me!

Ttyl,

Jenn

Hi Shawgirl82

Unfortunately I now consider myself a bit of an old hand at IVF so I will be happy to answer all of your questions. It’s a real roller-coaster & you get given information you don’t really understand & sometimes have to make decisions when things aren’t at all clear.

I am about to start my 5th cycle - my first pregnancy was my 3rd cycle & resulted in an ep. I did another cycle at Christmas & got a BFN (the other thing you will need to learn is the vast number of acronymns - this one unfortunately stands for Big Fat Negative - bet you can guess what a BFP stands for???)

There is lots of information out there on the various IVF boards - but also a lot of superstition.

It is very exciting - but you will find the worst thing you have to go through (apart of course from EP) is the 2WW (2 week wait) - this is the period between putting the embryos back into you and finding out whether you are pregnant (or not). So however stressful the lead up is (and the first cycle is very stressful as you don’t know what to expect) save some emotional strength for that part.

Here is my absolute best piece of advice: choose a clinic & a doctor who you really trust & like. There will be times when they suggest something you don’t want/like, or when things go wrong. You have to trust them as otherwise you will find the whole thing much more stressful if you suspect they aren’t doing a great job - or are just pushing something for money. Or if you get a BFN, and you think they could/should have done something different - which makes the whole thing much worse. And then you start considering moving clinics etc. So start right.

Despite what has happened to me, I trust my doc implicitly.

Thankyou ladies, you’re both so honest and gentle, I appreciate that. Hubby and I are starting towards IVF later in the year but getting the process going soon. I hope both of you have a positive outcome from IVF, and I’m so sorry to hear of your ordeal thus far. I’m sorry I’m of no use this month, but pleased to see there are some ladies open enough to talk IVF on this site.

All the very best this month. XX
