4-5 weeks pregnant... advice please

Hi Every one this is my first post here,

The end of November 2009 I found out I had an ectopic like other people on here, I didn’t know I was pregnant until I went to A&E in agony where they told me I was pregnant, sent me home and to have scan next day - I went back for the scan to be told it was an ectopic my tube was rupturing and they need to operate that day, and had my right tube removed the surgeon couldn’t believe I lasted as long as I did without collapsing.

So me and my OH decided we would move in together get house sorted, have a few holidays before TTC again - plus I was to scared to try again just yet.

This year was the time for us to start trying and we started TTC June 2013, I was tracking ovulation and all that and I was not ovulating every month and missing periods because of that - I ovulated end of October and got my positive test on Friday 8th November, I cant believe it im in shock! I was due to go doctors today to discuss having tests done about not ovulating!

I have scans done in the past and they have all said my left tube is perfect and healthy - I am now 4 weeks & 5 Days pregnant and what I wanted to know is - If it was an ectopic again would my pregnancy test of shown up positive 3 days before my period was due because that shows my hormones are quite high then? also I have a bunch of symptoms already - I have nausea, mild back ache, cant even touch my boobs they realllly hurt… surely these are all good signs?? and also because the bad tube was removed what are the chances of it being in my good tube.

I have been to my doctors and they have sent and early scan request to my hospital and if iv not heard anything back by end of next week I can call the Early pregnancy unit at the hospital and they will fit me in at 6 weeks.

I am so scared - every little twinge i get on my left side im like what is it… but if it happens on the right side i take no notice because theres no tube there so I know i may be over thinking things, I just need people to talk to I think

Thankyou xxx

Anyone?

Whispered congratulations, I know this time must be so scary, but you have done all the right things so far. Your better informed, so no matter what happens, your more prepared. The great news is you have a higher likely hood that this pregnancy has found the right place which is great.

There is no hard and fast rule about when pregnancy test show and HCG level rises, each pregnancy can be different, but it shows that HCG is rising which is great along with all the symptoms you are feeling. The scan is the only thing that can really determine if its in the right place.

I really understand how you feel, I hope your next week go well for you, and you get the scan that shows its in the right place. I know that time must feel like its standing still at times, waiting for your scan.

Let us know how you get on, hope you get your scan date through soon. We are here if you need to chat

Dear Kalia,

Whispered congratulations.

Mimis has brilliantly answered your question (thanks Mimis), sadly, it is impossible to draw conclusions from the pregnancy test because the hCG levels in an ectopic pregnancy can activate a positive pregnancy test. The other pregnancy symptoms are a positive sign for a high hCG level but again aren’t conclusive.

I really sympathise as I remember how terrifying the wait was. I have everything crossed for you for the six week scan. What can often happen at that scan is that they won’t be able to see a heartbeat yet as it is too early and will request for you to come back in a week. This is totally normal.

Best wishes,

Thank you for your responses I am now 5+2 days pregnant Iv had my scan date through today it’s for 2nd December when il be 7+2 I feel like the next two weeks il be going crazy

Iv had terrible nausea today and a bit if a dodgy belly this morning sorry if tmi some period type of cramps on n of and twinges n then on both my sides but mainly my left which worries me a little I told my gp and she said as long as its not severe don’t worry it all sounds normal

I hope the next 2 weeks go quickly I just want to know if alls ok xxx

Hi Kalia,

Great news you have a scan date. Please don’t hesitate to ring the Early Pregnancy Unit and to say to them that you have a date of 7 +2 weeks but that The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust always recommend best practice being to scan at 6 weeks given you have had a previous ectopic pregnancy.

Fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted.

I think if I want an early scan before 7 weeks I’m going to have to go to hospital because Iv rang early pregnancy unit and Iv also rang my gp both refusing to scan me earlier!

This worries me as I only have the one tube and if I lose the other then I won’t be able to have children naturally

I don’t know what to do

Thankyou

Hi there

Congratulations to such lovely news. I’m currently 7weeks pregnant had an early scan two weeks tomorrow which although the pregnancy was so small the sac is in the right place which is a huge massive relief! I have another scan Friday which I’m scared but do excited. Can you self refer to your epau? I did and they got me straight in although I understand not everywhere is the same.

I had loads of pains at the start especially on the right side where my ectopic was. It was suggested to be a corpus lutetium cyst (it’s a good thing) which at my scan the lady advised me that it probably was as there was some fluid present behind my pelvis. I also had lots of period type pain and lower back. I currently feel so sick I was totally unexpectedly sick this morning before going to work, boobs are huge my digestion has slowed right down. I’m trying not to moan because it really feels totally different to before and in some way positive  Some very good advice I had a few weeks ago before my scan was remember the true signs of an ectopic. At first I thought I felt an ectopic again but to be honest looking back over the past few weeks I realise it was nothing like it.

Sending you so much love and best wishes. I will keep a check out to see how you get on.

Dear Kalia,

How frustrating for you! In your situation I would do one of two things:

(1) Make an appointment with the GP (not the same one I saw last time who was involved in the 7 + 2 date). I would then tell them that I was incredibly worried that, according to best practice, I should be having a six week scan yet my scan date had come through for nine days later than this. I would say I appreciate they are busy but it is imperative that I am scanned early because I am at higher risk of another ectopic and, if it is another ectopic pregnancy, I need it to be diagnosed early enough to have treatment by methotrexate and preserve my fertility (fingers crossed it won’t be ectopic but it is a way of applying the pressure for them to give you the scan). I would then add that waiting for another nine days was having a severe impact on me emotionally and that I was struggling to sleep, was beside myself with worry etc etc. If they hadn’t mentioned that any suspect symptoms I should present straight at A&E I would also tell them that I was concerned that, despite being higher risk, no one had told me the importance of going to A&E if I had any ectopic symptoms… Hopefully they would call the Early Pregnancy Unit to get the date altered on this.

(2) I would call the early pregnancy unit above saying the information above and emphasise this is my one tube and I need to protect it. I’m not sure where you live to mention specific Early Pregnancy Units but this link here: http://earlypregnancy.org.uk/FindUsMap.asp mentions some of them.

Hope this helps,
