We've had an ectopic pregnancy...

I’m so pleased to have found this board, and find a group of people that have been through similar things.

We have an 18 month old, and had just started TTC#2. At the beginning of January I had a few pregnancy symptoms, and did test a couple days before my period was due, which came back negative. My period came 2 days late, and I assumed I wasn’t pregnant.

Three weeks later I had severe pain on my left side, and felt very unwell for a few hours. I then bled for 1/2 a day. I hoped that maybe it was implantation bleeding, so did another test, and it came back positive. However over the next few days I continued spotting, and having pain. I thought I would probably miscarry, and we went into hospital to get an Anti-D injection just in case. They ended up doing an ultrasound which showed a lot of internal bleeding and kept me in for two days. However I was feeling a lot better by this time, and my HCG levels were rising, so I was sent home with a ‘hope for the best’.

A few days later the pain and bleeding began, and by the weekend I was in excrutiating pain. We went into hospital again, and they did another ultrasound. The internal bleeding looked a lot worse, but they doubted it was an ectopic pregnancy since I thought I was only 5 weeks pregnant by this time. The doctor decided to do exploratory surgery anyway to see what was going on.

I woke up to be told it was ectopic pregnancy in my left tube, which they had to remove. And that I was at least 8 weeks pregnant (it would have been 9 weeks by my dates)

We are still reeling, and I don’t think I’ve really absorbed everything yet. It feels so scary thinking about TTC again, knowing that it could happen all over again…
