Hi all,
I had an infection many years ago and was told I could have issues conceiving if the infection spread to my tubes.
It had been an insecurity of mine for many years, so before I got married, I went and had a Hycosy and fertility check up at a private fertility clinic so my husband and I would know what our options were. I was told that my tubes were patent and also told that I had great ovarian reserve. They asked me to undertake IVF with them because my husband had a low sperm count. We declined.
I was very happy with the results and we began to try naturally. Nothing happened for over a year but then I fell pregnant naturally and it was ectopic. I had the pregnancy and tube removed in one operation. They did a laparoscopy and checked the other tube and said both tubes were every badly damaged but they couldn’t remove the second one because it was stuck to other organs. I was also told I had PCOS.
I’m so angry with the clinic that gave me the all clear and am considering legal action.
Has anyone else been given the all clear at an Hycosy then went on to have an ectopic?
Thanks
Hello Patiently Waiting,
I am so very sorry to hear this. It must be very difficult to hear that you have given wrong information.
I have had 2 ectopics and also have had the test later to check my only tube (one removed during the first ectopic, other one saved). The test did say it is clear but it will not give you 100% certainty that the ectopic won’t happen again. The scan cannot show everything. My doctor said that scan can show does the dye go through and is it clear, but inside the tube there are little things called cilia, which help to push the egg through the tube for it to reach to a right place. And the scan would not show, if they are damaged, as they are too tiny. And if they are damaged, the egg can still get stuck and cause another ectopic.
Unfortunately, if you have had one ectopic, the chance for the next one is a lot higher.
I do know 2 lovely ladies, who I spoke to after my second ectopic, who both had one tube removed, other one saved and then had hycosy, which confirmed that the tube was clear. They both tried again, as doctors said they still have a chance that the egg will come through. Unfortunately both of them had 3rd ectopic and tubes removed.
I am so sorry to deliver the bad news, as I know how harsh it is. I have been referred to ivf now, as I am not brave enough to try anymore 3rd time.
I hope all goes well for you.
Thank you so much for sharing.
It helps to know that it couldn’t have been prevented.
I hope it all goes well for you when you begin IVF.
