Hello. I’m not really sure what im doing here, but i guess it’s a good way to say how i feel to people who might understand rather than can only guess how you do as they haven’t been through it.
Last month, i found out i was pregnant, and i was excited. It’s all i have wanted, this didnt go as planned. Obviously, had to have surgery to remove the pregnancy and my left tube.
I really want to try again but im scared it will happen again. I know that there is no way of knowing if it will and there is no way to say why it happened in the first place which i find hard to deal with even more. Its lovely to hear all the positive stories and percentage but the anxiety of the unknown is more overpowering. what if im that percentage that it happens again then why me? Can anyone help with this do these feelings get better?
Dear Seracha,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
It is normal to feel anxious about the future. We experience a mix of emotions from wanting to try again to being petrified of what may lie ahead. We never forget our experience but we can learn to accept what happened.
It is a slow process that might be weeks or months ahead. In time, we can get to a place where we feel comfortable trying again. When this is, is individual for each person. There is no timeframe for recovery, take each day as it comes.
Importantly early scans avail. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.
I too worried i’d have another ectopic pregnancy, but it may reassure you to know that I went on to have a successful pregnancy after my ectopic and these boards are full of similar experiences. Try to keep positive and remember there is an 80% chance of a successful pregnancy next time.
Making the decision to begin trying to conceive is an emotional rollercoaster compounded by our sad loss. Again, you are not alone. We here emotional support whenever you need us. There is a specific Preparing for your Next Pregnancy board you can look at too whenever feel ready.
Best wishes,
Karen x
