Some reassurance please-pregnant after ectopic

Hey everyone

I really need some reassurance.

I found out today I’m about 4 weeks pregnant following an ectopic pregnancy which resulted in surgery in May.

About 3 days ago I started getting twinging on my right side (where the ectopic was) and assumed it was my period coming.

The tests are very positive…! But I honestly feel sick with worry. And the twinges are there on that right side. I can’t get it out of my head that this is another ectopic.

Has anyone else experienced these twinges post ectopic and gone on to have a normal pregnancy?

Many thanks

Gaby

Hi Gaby,

I too felt twinges and pain once I was pregnant again after an ectopic in April. I found myself over thinking and becoming stressed over every small feeling. However I am now 26 weeks pregnant with a healthy little girl. I think it’s only normal to have these worries and thoughts after everything we have been through. Try to stay calm and relax, I know it’s easier said than done. But also remember to book for an early scan and check with your doctor if you experience other symptoms.

I still have twinges now, especially where the scars are but all is good. I hope everything goes well for you and try to remember not to stress too much.

X

Hi kate

Thank you for getting back to me.

I had a little bit of shoulder pain today and now I’ve got it into my head that this is another ectopic…!

I am being scanned on Thursday where they’ll do bloods, but I’m not feeling optimistic!

I’m so glad you have a healthy little girl on the way! It’s good to hear a positive story post ectopic!

Many thanks

Gaby

Hi Gaby,

I also felt what I thought was pain in my shoulder in the early weeks. To be honest every thought went through my mind until I had my early scan. After this it was as if all pains and twinges seemed to ease, as if my brain had been over thinking everything. I have my fingers crossed all goes well for you on Thursday. Remember to rest when you can and try to relax until then.

Dear Gaby,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, I sadly have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell to seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Exactly me right now! I have many more ‘classic’ pregnancy symptoms this time but honestly feel sick at the thought of going through it again. This is going to be the longest 2 weeks of my life. The very thought of the scan at 6 weeks makes me want to vomit. Getting the odd twinge where my my scar is but guessing this could be the scar tissue…not taking anything for granted and on high alert but this itself is exhausting. Trying to focus on stats being in our favour 65% chance of success as opposed to 35% unsuccessful…its all I have! :expressionless:

May I ask how this turned out? I am in the states and really rooting for you.

I am so glad. I came across this post. I am expecting my period in the next week but have been trying for another little one for 3 months now after my ectopic. Not soon enough for a test since I am not past my expected period date, but today I started getting some light twinges of pain on my surgery side, just like you described. I have been so paranoid and and confused.

I get pains during ovulation since the surgery but opk tests indicated that likely happened around a week ago.

I don’t want to get too hopeful but, I can’t help but want it to be relation to getting pregnant this time.
