It has been a long road, but I’ll try to make it short.
DH and I were married Aug 1997. We decided to wait a few years before we started a family. We wanted a house and to get bills paid off. I was teaching high school Health and he is a Highway Patrol officer.
In Fall of 1999 we ttc. We ended up getting pg only to lose the baby in a missed m/c at 11 weeks. I was going in for my first u/s and they couldn’t see anything. I was scheduled for another u/s in the Radiology Dept of the hospital the next day. It showed a 6 wk old baby, no hb. D&C was scheduled for that night. Luckily, I didn’t have any bleeding or pain. The symptoms had just disappeared. That whole day was a nightmare. The hospital staff was rude and I just remember crying the whole time. My dr was terrible too. They told me to wait 6 months ttc. The midwife said 3 was ok.
Almost a year later, we got pg again. This new pg had the same edd as the one we lost. DD was born Oct 2001. No problems except for the emergency c-section because she was breech. They found this out after I was there for 12 hrs when my dr showed and checked me. My DD is my joy! (most of the time!)
When she was 2 we started trying again - although we never really used bc since she was born that I remember. In June of 2003 we were pg again. Things were ok until I started spotting brown and having pain. It was my 1st EP. I ended up in surgery July 3 and lost my right tube. It was hard, but I still had 1 tube left. So on to try again. Meanwhile all my friends were pg and having to be around them and their newborns was so hard.
We got pg again April 2005. I was worried about another EP and my dr was on top of it with blood work and u/s. We went up to 8 weeks before we ended up in surgery to check for another tubal. Numbers were rising slowly, but nothing showed on the u/s. We found out this 2nd EP was in the top portion of the tube that was removed with the 1st one. We were relieved that I still had one tube. IVF isn’t really an option for us. Our insurance doesn’t cover anything - not even the HSG test.
So we keep trying and are scared and excited to get another BFP this past March 21, 2006. I called the dr right away and went in for blood work that night. I was just 4 weeks then. My counts were rising exactly how they should and then I started having brown spotting. This last about a week and then some red. My counts were still up, so my dr didn’t seem worried. Finally, the counts went down. We still hadn’t seen anything on u/s, so we decided to do a D&C to see if it was in the uterus. If it wasn’ there then he would do Lap. to check for another EP. With 2 already it was suspected. I woke up the night of April 6 in a hospital bed. DH told me if was in the tube, but because my counts were going down and it hadn’t ruptured he left it alone. We had requested this. I should have received the Metho shot that night, but because my counts were still going down they didn’t. A week later after blood work every other day, they started going up again. I was told to go get the metho shot that day. Off we went and now we wait to see if it worked. I did blood work yesterday and have yet to hear if it went down or not. My dr has been awesome through this and I think he is learning a lot too! Ep aren’t rare, but not enough info is out there about them.
Our plan for more children is to try again after my waiting period and see what happens. I know God performs miracles still today! if we do have another Ep, then the tube will be removed. I am not going to go through this again. This last time was enough.
