I had a ectopic pregnancy in December which resulted in the removal of my right tube.
I had my period 4 weeks after surgery and since then my partner and I have done the deed once using protection.
I am now 3 days late with slight lower pains and worrying that it could possibly be happening again. Prior to all of this I was very regular on my period being 28 day cycle.
My partner and I have used protection and won’t try to conceive again for a while, due to how this has affected me. So I wanted to start taking contraceptive pill once this period started. I am worrying myself silly I have fallen and will go through all of this again. Any advice on period being irregular and late ?
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss.
It can take a few months for periods to settle into a rhythm that is more normal for us.
Periods can be delayed for a number or reasons including stress or even excessive exercise or weight loss. Doctors normally consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters. If you have not had your period and could have conceived, we would advise completing a pregnancy test with an early morning urine. If it is negative, we would advise testing in a further week. If it has been 42 days since your last period, please talk to your GP who maybe able to assist you further.
As pain is so subjective, I always advise to seek medical advice if you develop any worsening pain or if you have any concerns.
