Hi
I’m looking for anyone that has had a successful pregnancy following a scar ectopic? I suffered a scar ectopic and am so scared of it happening again. Would love to know if anyone has got pregnant again after scar ectopic and it has all be fine ?
Dear Nade,
I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you have been through.
I’m afraid I don’t have personal experience of a c-section scar ectopic. As you have probably been told, these are rare forms of ectopic and so research on them is quite scarce. There has been a documented review of c section scar pregnancies and of 944 c section scar pregnancies, 20% were recurrent. To put a different angle on that though, that means 80% were in the right place in the place in the second pregnancy. The review also found that there was no causal link or association between the type of treatment of the previous c section scar ectopic and the recurrence of another, which is reassuring also. As we suggest, the study also highlights the importance for early pregnancy scanning at around 6 weeks with any future pregnancies. A lot of early pregnancy units, let people self refer for this. If yours doesn’t, contact your GP surgery where a clinician should be able to refer you.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Hello,
I had a scar ectopic 5 months after my first born in 2021. After surgery, i was told i had a hematoma where the pregnancy was taken from. They said miscarriage would be high and there was a chance i would not be able to carry another baby. I came off contraceptives not necessarily to get pregnant but three months later we were very surprised and lucky enough to have a positive test. I was closely monitored up to 12 weeks especially after a bleed at week 7 but our beautiful baby was born at 38 weeks by cesarean section in 2023. She will turn 2 next week. An emotional roller coaster no doubt but our little treasure.
Wishing you all the best
Cathy x
