Radiating pain since ectopic treatment

Hi

It’s been 4 months that I got medically treated with methotrexate for ectopic pregnancy in the right Fallopian tube. Since then, I have been experiencing right side lower abdomen pain which radiates and extends till right foot with fluctuating intensities in the knee, entire leg. I was on antibiotics for quite many days in the beginning, it got subsided 80-90% after taking rest and not doing much physical exertion but it keeps coming back if I keep standing for long or with physical exertion. Also, my doctor kept me on letrozole for five days to induce ovulation on the 3rd day of my period, I got intense pain during periods. All my scans and procedures are fine. I don’t know why this pain is happening.

Dear Neha sharma,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,

Experiencing some pain after an ectopic pregnancy is normal as your body has been through a great deal over the last few months. The pain may be your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through.

Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your symptoms. I take it from your post that you have had some investigations, as your symptoms continue, I suggest keeping a pain diary noting when the pain appears, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helps the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. Visiting your doctors again with this information helps them to assess how best to manage your symptoms.

Sending much love,

Karen x
