Hi! I have searched for similar posts in the forum but I was unable to find any topics related. Last year on 19.08 I had an ectopic pregnancy and I was treated with two shots of methotrexate. It took three and a half long months for the nightmare to be over, leaving me traumatised, in severe pain on my right tube and fears in getting pregnant again.
I have since then sharp pains in the right tube, especially when ovulating and near my period. However, sometimes they are isolated cramps in the middle of the cycle, having nothing to do with ither OV or AF.
My question is: any of you who were treated with Methotrexate still suffer from sharp pains on your tube? Is that normal? I have seen a few doctors and they’ve told me it’s the tube healing, but it’s been a year now and they don’t seem to care much.
We are trying to get pregnant again and every time I have this pain I fear it is another ectopic and that everything is going to happen again. I am one day late of my period and have pain on the right side. I tested this morning and I came as negative, but maybe I ovulated later than I thought.
Thanks for your answers!!
Diana
Dear Diana,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and your continued discomfort and worry.
It is not uncommon to feel pain following ectopic pregnancy. The pain may be due to adhesions (scar tissue that binds two parts of the body together) which form and take some time to settle. Your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through.
I too had methotraxate injection and I had pain for many months following my ectopic pregnancy and like you this was not always around the time of ovulation. I kept a diary of when I experienced the pain, documented the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that it stopped me from doing or helped it such as resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. When I presented the Doctor with this information, they decided to investigate further and I was referred to hospital. I however didn’t have any further investigations as I fell pregnant the week after my pre-operative appointment.
I can however say that 7years after my ectopic pregnancy, I continue to feel ovulation pain when I never did before however all other pain and discomfort has settled.
If your Dr has not seemed understanding or supportive, perhaps keep a diary as mentioned above and visit a different Dr in your practice.
I truly understand how frustrating and worrying it can be when we are trying to conceive and I send warm hugs and much love,
Karen x

Thank you so much for your kind words and congratulations for your pregnancy! I was told long ago that it was some scarring that it was causing the pain, but no further investigation was taken. I am 11 days late of my period now and still getting negative results. I worry because of the pain and of the possibility of another ectopic. I wonder if it is ectopic will not show up as pregnancy until later in the pregnancy. I holding my hopes that it is not and that it will be either a late period or a healthy pregnancy.
I am going to follow your advice and keep track of the pain daily so I can show it to my doctors.
Thanks again and I hope your pregnancy goes/ did go smooth and healthy.
Best,
Diana
Hi,
I also have this pain in the same side as my ectopic a few months after and am terrified of trying again. Surely if it is due to scar tissue this means the tube is damaged and makes an ectopic pregnancy more likely? Any advice on this would be very appreciated as I have also developed a lot of anxiety about pregnancy.
