Pregnant and scared

Hi all,

I have today found out that I am pregnant. I have contacted the early pregnancy unit and have a scan booked in for 2nd December at 7 weeks. It feels like an age away! After 4 previous miscarriages and an ectopic in February (right tube removed) I am nervous, anxious, happy- all over the place! :frowning: Does anyone have any tips for calming me down for the next 3 weeks or positive stories?

Take care everyone

xx

Dear MrsG87,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

I wish I had tips on how to pass the time as I remember vividly how nervous I was. Take each day as it comes and try to keep yourself busy and distracted even if itā€™s as simple as reading books.

I didnā€™t have surgery, I had methotrexate injection but my next pregnancy was successful so I hope this gives you some hope.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Firstly congratulations and I hope everything goes well this time around!!

I had my ectopic in May/June. I had methotrexate but unfortunately it didnā€™t work in time and my tube ruptured so I also had surgery and right tube removal.

It may not work for you but I keep telling myself thisā€¦ the doctors ruled my ectopic as spontaneous meaning there was no obvious reason and so they can only presume my tube was damaged or ā€œnot working at its best at that timeā€ during my surgery they noted that my left tube looked ā€œfineā€. A risk of a second ectopic is increased by 10% which means the chance of a successful one is 90%!! Also, I believe that because we have had our ectopic tubes removed, there is now one less place for another ectopic to arise.

Again, this may not work for you but it is bringing me comfort daily. I have my scan on Fridayā€¦ which has felt like an age but it has soon come round!

If you do get any pain or bleeding call the EPU and ask to be seen sooner.

Good luck! Xx

Hi, have you considered asking the EPU if you can have a scan at 6 weeks? They most likely will be able to see if itā€™s all in the right place at that point in time, so you can relax earlier if itā€™s all good.

Iā€™m so sorry youā€™re feeling anxious. I know exactly how you feel. Can I ask, did you have any investigations done for recurrent miscarriage? I know a cause isnā€™t always found but would be interested to know if it is since I have had an ectopic and two miscarriages since.

Sending love at this anxious time! Jen xxx
