Pregnant and don't know what to do next

It took about a month but on Christmas Eve I was diagnosed with a pregnancy of unknown location and give methotrexate.

I have felt weird and not great all week so I did a pregnancy test yesterday and it was positive. Faint but positive. My period isn’t due till sundayish. It would mean I am only just four weeks. What do I do now? The cheap strip test is still negative it’s just the early response ones. Should I wait until I miss my period to ring the EPU? Also I am worried about folic acid because of the methotrexate. I have been taking it properly for about two months which is less than you should so. Stupidly I didn’t expect to get pregnant as easily.

Thank you in advance!

Dear Rushbury,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.

Speaking from UK medical practice and standards, usually doctors carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo around this six week mark.

We advise contacting your local EPU as soon as you can, reminding them of your ectopic pregnancy and booking an appointment. If you are unable to self refer, contact your GP who will be able to do this for you.

We do advise taking folic acid for 12 weeks prior to trying to conceive. As this has not been possible for yourself, I would advise discussing this with your GP.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x
