Pregnant after Ectopic & Flying

Hi there,
I unfortunately had an ectopic pregnancy in September 2024 and was treated with Methotrexate x2 doses.

I have just found out I’m pregnant and I am now 4 weeks so obviously very early and I’m petrified.
However, I’m due to fly a long haul flight (8 hours) when I’ll be 5 weeks and 6 days.

I’ve read everywhere they won’t do an early scan until you’re 6 weeks. So I’m just very anxious as ideally I would hope for a scan before I fly.

I’m just wondering did anyone fly in early pregnancy after a previous ectopic?

Thank you

Dear Penny,
Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy.
Flying is not a proven cause for an ectopic pregnancy. I would however avoid flying until you have had that early pregnancy scan to exclude an ectopic pregnancy.
If something happened mid flight or in your destination country you may be liable for any medical expenses incurred and travel insurance may well be invalid if your have not declared your current pregnancy or previous ectopic pregnancy.
Ultimately the decision is yours (and your family), but I would advise caution.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Hello Penny

Im sorry about your previous ectopic. Congratulations on your positive.

I don’t know the answer to your flying question, but just wanted to say im in a similar situation about feeling scared.

I had a previous ectopic (Nov 23 treated with methotrexate) and have got a positive at 4 weeks, im scared as i’ve had some light brown bleeding which has sent me in to a googling frenzy.

Ive self referred to my local epau today and they have offered me a scan at 6 weeks. Have you contacted your local epau and explained your situation?
