Pregnant after ectopic, any tips to cope with anxiety

Hi all,

I suffered an ectopic pregnancy last October and was treated with Methotrexate. I am 4 weeks pregnant now and I have been having twinges and a dull pain in my right side and pain in my right lower back. The EPU gave me an appointment for a scan on the 29th of June and I am feeling anxious and scared about this pregnancy.

How did you cope with the wait until your first scan? Any advice or tips on how to feel more positive?

Many thanks

Maria

Hi

I’ve had two ectopics and I found out this morning I’m pregnant again, about four weeks too! It was a really faint positive but the second line was definitely there. I’m also having a dull ache on my right side (my remaining tube) which is worrying me too.

I don’t have any advice on how to get through to the six week scan - I’m really struggling too - but just wanted to say that you’re not alone xxx

Dear Maria and fertility-tales,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy (to you both)

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, I sadly have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, worsening abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell to seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x
