Pregnant after ectopic

Hi Everyone

Looking for advice! I had an ectopic pregnancy in July this year where I had to have surgery to remove my left tube as it had ruptured. I have just taken a pregnancy test and it is positive! I have been getting twinges central, left and right and have a feeling of pressure on my Pubic bone. My mind is racing and I’m so anxious that it could be another ectopic pregnancy. I’m terrified that it happens again. Was wondering if anyone else has been the same? Xx

Dear MrsP87,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

Doctors carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance at six weeks of seeing an embryo. We advise you contact your local EPU reminding them of your ectopic pregnancy to book an appointment. If you are unable to self refer, contact your GP who will be able to do this for you.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, sadly I do have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell to seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

I’m 4 weeks and I also have twinges on both sides. I’m hoping it’s just the uterus preparing for change.

Thanks girls! I’m going to see my doctor shortly to get booked in for an early scan. Fingers crossed everything is ok. I Hope everything goes ok for you marmoannie

You too. It’s a horrible waiting game.

Spoke to the midwife earlier and she does not think I need a scan until 8 weeks. Also have been advised don’t need bloods taken yet either. I don’t know if this makes me more anxious or not but just keep telling myself if they thought there was a problem they would have me in earlier!!

I’m living in Australia so maybe they do things differently. I had bloods at 3.5 weeks, 4.5 weeks too. also due to have bloods at 5.5 weeks and then a scan two days after.
