Previous ectopic, now pregnant & having pain

Hi everyone,

I’m not sure if I’m putting this in the right place.

I had an ectopic pregnancy in October 2019 and had 2 doses of methotrexate. Luckily I avoided surgery and have had a HyCosy showing both tubes appear fine!

It’s taken us until now to get pregnant again as I have PCOS and I’m now 4 weeks and 3 days. I’ve not had any bleeding so far but I have had some twinges/mild pains on the left side where I had my previous ectopic.

I have a scan booked in 2 days and another a week afterwards with my EPU. They haven’t taken me straight in as I haven’t had any bleeding.

Has anyone experienced this and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy?

I’m just anxious and completely scared stiff that things are going to go wrong xxxx

Dear Krystle,

Whispered congratulations on your pregnancy,

After an ectopic pregnancy, finding we are pregnant again can be a mix of emotions and I can completely understand your feeling nervous. It is perfectly normal to feel scared after the ordeal you have endured. I also felt twinges and aches after my ectopic pregnancy, particularly when I next felt pregnant. My mind started racing and I was only really able to relax to some degree after my early scan. It is a nerve-wracking time and you have a friend here who understands how you are feeling.

Speaking from UK medical practice and standards, usually doctors carry out an internal transvaginal scan at around six weeks with subsequent pregnancies after an ectopic. This is because there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo around this six week mark. It maybe that at just over 4 weeks It will be difficult to see anything but they should book you in for a follow up appointment if this is the case.

Whilst I do not wish to alarm you, I sadly have to remind you that if you experience any unusual bleeding, abdominal pain, shoulder tip pain, bladder or bowel problems or feel dizzy and unwell to seek urgent medical advice.

Sending much love and positive thoughts,

Karen x

Hi Karen,

Thank you for your message back to me. I went for my scan and they saw a sac in my uterus, I was so happy I cried. Too early to see anything properly as you mentioned so I’m due another scan in 2 days time to see progress. They’ve said I ovulated on my ectopic side and have a corpus luteum cyst which may be why I have experienced the twinges and mild pain.

Praying we go on to have a healthy pregnancy xxx

Dear Krystle,

Great news so far,

I will certainly be keeping everything crossed for you for your Next scans. Try to stay positive and I will send love and positive thoughts also,

Much love,
