Hello Ladies,
I’m new to this site, i now wish i had known about this three months ago when i had my first pregnancy that ended up in an ectopic, with my left tube removed. I just found out I’m pregnant at about 4 weeks, i had my doctors appointment this Monday and they couldn’t see any gestational sac or thickening of the uterus wall but my hcg were a little over 1000. I’m really scared I MIGHT have an ectopic again, i have heard that since Ive have an ectopic before I’m at a higher risk. I would love to hear some positive feedback from pregnancies after an ectopic, everything i have been reading on other sites are so depressing. i know not to get my hopes up but it would be nice to know that some women have made it!!
Hi Daisy,
Whispered congratulations! We understand that fear of getting your hopes up and guilt for not being as excited as you feel you should be so well. Sadly, when we have been through an ectopic pregnancy it is totally normal to be focussed on ‘oh my gawd, it better be in the right place’ and ‘what will I do if I lose my other tube’ and the pressure of waiting for a scan is beyond words.
If it helps to know, when I was pregnant after my ectopic I also had to go back for another scan a week later and everything turned out okay.
When they scanned you at 4 weeks it is unlikely they will have seen anything as it is not typically possible to see anything on a scan before 6 weeks. Furthermore, on a 6 week scan, it is not unusual to be able to see a gestational sac but no heartbeat yet. Typically, doctors will want to scan you again at 6 weeks.
Statistically, there is a very good chance the pregnancy won’t be ectopic but, if it makes you feel better to know, it is also unlikely that you would rupture at this early stage.
Best wishes,
