Post Surgery

Hi Everyone,

Firstly, I still can’t get my head round the fact that I am on this site in the first place and that I am now the other side of surgery following my ectopic and right tube removal.

Really I just wanted reassurance that it’s normal to be finding it extremely difficult to pass a BM :frowning: I have IBS and am no stranger at all to constipation but this is simply on another level!

I am into day 2 post surgery and am feeling extremely full. Have just started laxative treatment but I am terrified that it won’t work  and I havnt had a BM now since Tuesday morning so almost 3 days!

Does anyone have a similar experience and how did you cope?

Hi

So sorry that you are going through this. I’m 4 weeks on from discovering my ectopic & just over 3 weeks post surgery & I still can’t get my head round the fact this has happened. For me methotrexate wasn’t working quick enough & with some symptoms it was decided I should have surgery as they were worried I might still rupture - rather frustrating as it meant I had to recover from the two treatments at once which took its toll. I found for a good 2-3 days afterward I had really bad trapped wind like pains, I put it down to the fact they pump some gas in your tummy to perform the surgery but it was rather uncomfortable & I wasn’t going as normal. But by day 2/3 it started to move & I was able to start going again (sorry tmi).

Hope you feel better soon & sending lots of love as you recover xxx

Dear KTW,

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss.

Constipation post surgery can be common, couple that with constipation commonly caused by some pain relief medications and it’s no wonder we can have troubles post surgery.

It is good that you have started some laxatives. Ensure you are taking enough fluids and gentle movement.

I have added some more information here-

If you are not having a bowel movement in a few days or becoming more uncomfortable or start vomiting, please seek further medical advice.

Sending much love,

Karen x
